glock17

I purchased a G17 about a year ago for $450 lightly used and feel I got a pretty good deal also. Mine is a gen 3 and came w/ 2 mags and I would call it like new. The only thing I have added is a hugue rubber grip and a blackhawk holster and mag holster for IDPA. The best part is that I now reload and is VERY cheap to shoot so I get to go to the range more often! :) I might add some of the Tru-Glo night sights one of these days but am currently working on my 1911.

For that price you could have gotten a S & W 4506.
Uh, lets see here...

Glock 17= 9mm
S&W 4506= 45ACP

How can you even draw a remote comparison between the two? The OP didn't even mention a desire for a Gen 3 S&W.

Anyway, congrats on purchasing a very fine 9mm. You'll get years and years of enjoyment out of it without having to modify anything. $450 is an OK price, but don't worry about that too much. Just shoot and enjoy.

For the OP, as long as you are happy...that is all that matters.

While both the RTF2, and the Gen4 RTF are similar in that they both feel like sandpaper, the latter's texture has a courser, yet grippy feel to it, vs. the fine, your-hand-will-be-calloused-by-shot-4, sandpaper feel.

I've owned each iteration of the RTF finishes. None are "sandpaper" like. The RTF 2 was the most aggressive. Even after a 600 round session, the only thing sore or calloused was my fingertip from loading mags.

Sounds like a good deal to me, especially if it were ANIB. I've seen better deals out there from time to time, however if I were looking to get a used g17 I would be very happy with that.

For that price you could have gotten a S & W 4506.

What a pointless comment. He could also add a pound of lead weights to a G17 and still have better gun than a S&W 4506. He could also buy a used 4506 for $300. Set $150 on fire and be unhappy with both the gun and the wasted $$.

Ah, clearly you are not a gratuitous user of hand moisturizer and have manly hands. :)

I first shot the RTF2, I found it to be a bit of hand grater and after about only 100rds, I did have a bit of irritation right below the fingerprints at the joint on my shooting hand, the kind that says, "this is clearly NOT the Gen3 you are used to". Nothing worth whining about, but a gripe nonetheless from some users. My "sandpaper" description was just for clarity re: RTF1 and 2, the least you knew is what I was talking about.

I've only held the Gen4 pistol, and I *think* I'll like it better. Waiting for a chance to find out via range session.

John 5036,
Don't overthink it, bro. Gen 4s are rtf.
Never said Gen4s weren't RTF.

Respectfully, let me point out that you incorrectly (out of context) cited page 3 of the Glock Gen4 manual as though the RTF tag was a Gen4 exclusive and that a full working title of Gen4 RTF is correct nomenclature in discrediting the fellow who said Gen4 RTFs don't exist. It is but a half-truth, and overall NOT correct. His assessment is a half-truth, and NOT correct either. If you are going to correct someone that bluntly and not provide your understanding of why that person is incorrect, but only a bullet point in the manual that refers to the grip texture only, when the context of the thread is clearly the firearm as a whole... you don't help the thread, nor the OP whose already faced his own confusion as to what he purchased and has not felt the need to provide a picture of his particular model.

With respect (and I mean this), you should have been more thoughtful and more constructive with your correction. I meant only clarity, not disrespect, to your exchange.

What a load of blarny. I know that you mean well and think you're clarifying things but 99.9% of those reading this thread are capable of getting the gist of it without all the hair splitting. Since you seem to be the self appointed thread police, I have this bit of advice. Get off your high horse, amigo.

Except I wasn't speaking to the 99.9% reading this thread. I spoke to the OPs original uncertainties that didn't get helped by certain hair-splitting. If you felt policed, I can't help that, but it was not my intention and I remained respectful because I do mean well, thanks for noticing that. How you speak down to me at the end in each of your replies is interesting to observe so...about that high horse, you get off yours, I'll get off mine, I buy you the beer you buy me the milk and let's call it a day.

TMJ, don't my ribbing seriously. As others have said, that is a fair price. Recently GT Distributors in Austin, TX were selling trade-in G17s, 3rd G, for $349, like new. So whether a price is good can be relative to circumstance. Enjoy your G17 and all the others that you will own. Over time the amortization of cost will make the price difference minimal.

GT has also been selling G22s, 3rd G, trade-in, like new, for $329. G22, 2nd G, $289. Now that is a bargain. No shipping, no FFL fee if bought local.

If you need something to do on the weekends that is more fun than 'paper punching' then check out...

Mr K...
Do you shoot a S&W in 45 cal???

I have a G21 45 acp, have a barrel, and shoot the 400 Corbon in it, plus a barrel for 10mm also, it does a nice job...

Can the S&W do that

Regards:D
