Opinions on a 9mm range gun

Of the pistols you mentioned, I'd go for the CZ. Cheaper than a Sig, and a nicer pistol anyway IMO.

A while back I picked up a Beretta 92FS for a price I couldn't pass up, but I still want the CZ.

I don't know about you guys, but I've never felt a trigger on a striker or double action gun I thought were very good for target or range guns.

Prior to getting a Springfield XDm 5.25 Comp I probably would have agreed. I got the 5.25 from Springer Precision with their competition trigger modification.

The takeup is slightly longer than a 1911 but the break is equally as good. What helps the XDm is that it is a single action and doesn't have the reset associated with a double action striker fired gun.

When the gun was designed, one of the goals was to make the trigger as close to a 1911 feel as possible in a striker fired gun. However, without some "help" (Springfield Custom Shop, Canyon Creek, Powder River Precision, Springer Precision, etc.) the trigger doesn't reach its full potential. From the factory, the trigger is about 4.5 lbs, and competition triggers can get it safely to 2.5 lbs, reduce the takeup, and make it have a crisp, 1911-like break.

At an XDm 5.25 shooting demonstration by Rob Leatham, he made the point that anyone shooting competitively would want the trigger modified (see the Brian Enos forum for an entire thread on the subject).

My regular range gun is a 92FS. I have about 5000 rounds through it now. When I'm not shooting the Beretta I shoot a CZ75B and a CZ75P01. My P01 is a good compromise between range work and carry. It's only drawback is I still haven't broken in the trigger. Between CZ and Beretta I find the Beretta to have a better out of the box trigger. But the CZ has really top notch ergonomics and because of that almost everyone that shoots the CZ will tell you how good it feels.

If I compare reliability I'd have to give the nod to Beretta. My CZ75B has had a few lingering FRTB issues that appear to be almost personality related. I've never had a problem with either of my Beretta's. I don't own a Glock but I would have no reason to believe their reliability isn't as good as everyone says it is. Personally, I'm not a Polymer fan. I prefer all steel or high grade alloy frames with stainless steel slides.

I guess in some round about way I'm recommending the Beretta. I also carry mine in a Galco Royal Guard IWB holster. Yup...it's big but it does carry pretty well in this holster.

I have to give a nudge to the glock 34. I bought a glock 17 gen4 last year. I really like that gun allot. After finding the type of match shooting that I like most I traded it in and bought the glock 34 gen4. I love this gun. I shoot IDPA and this is the perfect gun for that. IMO. The stock 4.5 lb trigger and the longer sight radius are a great help. I also do some speed steel action and this gun comes right back down on target. This has been my first summer shooting fun matches at my gun club. I was able to shoot el presidente in 5.16 the last time I shot with the 34.
I just love the simplicity of the glocks. Don't be afraid of the gen 4 issues. I have shot 1000's of rounds this summer in them with no issues.
I haven't shot one but I held a M&P and I liked the grip. Many like that gun as well.

I confess I didn't read all the posts so excuse me if this was mentioned already.

I've shot Sigs and CZ's. I own an CZ Shadow and preB 75. I've also got a Beretta 92fs.

For only one gun out of the lot I saw in your first post I'd say go for the CZ and with the money you save over buying the CZ instead of the Sig buy a spring kit and match hammer from CZ Custom. Use the 13 lb mainspring (or 15 if you're carrying for SD) and install the match hammer with the shallower hammer notch. You'll reduce the trigger pull to around 6 lbs in DA and around 2.5 in SA with the 13 lb mainspring. And the hammer will reduce the amount of creep by a bunch to make the actual trigger break more like that fabled "breaking glass" feel.

All the guns you mention would be a fne choice.
G17- Is a really fun gun for the range. Really accurate and uber reliable. With a few Glock 33 round 9mm mags, you can shoot and shoot and not have to stop often for reloading mags.
92 fs is a great fun gun to shoot. Has a really nice trigger and never malfunctions.
sig p226 is a dream gun of mine. I rented one at a range and wow I was grinning like a fly on stink. I've been wanting one ever since. Has a nice da/sa set up on it. Imo its the best da/sa out there.
But since your open to other things, the SA xd is a fine pistol as well. I don't find the "M" worth the extra money some peole may differ with me. The SA xd feels great in the hands and actually a good looking poly gun.
The sr is also a good choice if you don't mind buying it and sending it to AZ to have something fixed on it. Both mine ran great upon there return.
The cz I can't speak to as I've never shot one. All the reviews I've read have been nothing but positive. I fondled one at the gun show but it was to late, I'd already bought one :(

Beretta or CZ. Those are the best shooting semi-auto's I have handled.

I own a 96FS INOX. Probably the best purchase I ever made, in the gun department, truth be told.

Range gun / carry weapon, Glock G19, going larger would seriously limit being a daily beater IMO. 9mm range pistol STI Spartan, IWB holster could be an ok carry weapon, if you get Novak sights instead of the adjustable. I use my carry weapon a lot at the range but it is not a range pistol. Glock G34, STI Trojan, Colt MK IV Series 70 1911 are my 9mm range pistols, 9mm CZ PCR, Glock G19, .45 SIG RCS 1911 are my carry weapons. I am looking at 9mm commander length 1911s for what may be the best choice for a Range gun / Carry weapon.

I own more Glocks than any other brand autoloader. I've owned Glocks for over 20 years now. I like Glocks. A lot.

Of all the guns you named, I would choose the SIG.

I wont mention a name as I feel they are all good but I would go with a striker fired pistol(glock,M&P,XD,Etc) over SA/DA(the Beretta).

Opinions on a 9mm range gun
Ok so I'm looking to buy a new 9mm as a range or occasional carry gun. I thought i had it narrowed down between a Sig P226 and CZ75B. But while talking to a guy at my local gun shop today I was recommended a 92FS and Glock 17. I am drawn to the price, ease of modification, and price on the Glock. Really hate to drop $800 on the Sig but I love those guns (great crisp trigger). Really like the feel of the CZ though. Too many decision. Hoping some opinions could help me make up my mind. Accuracy and a good trigger are what I value the most with comfortability and ease of operation being close third. Appreciate it guys.

Go for the "Poor-Man's SIG"... S&W 59XX or S&W 915 (not 910). You can find them all day long for right around $300 (less for the 915). That's what they are really nicknamed, BTW.

Your choices are all over the place. It sounds like you are open to suggestion and want far more handguns than you can afford. You sound like...me.

Of the ones you mentioned I like the CZ best. The feel great.

I'd also skip on the glock 17 and go for a 19 if you intend on carrying it. I've owned many pistols and the 19 is one of my all around favorites and one that I wish I would have bought years ago. Decent sight radius, comfortable sized grip without being too small and overall small/light enough to carry concealed all day comfortably.

SpentCasing on page 1 pretty much sums it up... I would add the smith and wesson m&p series though.
