Glocks...Should I buy into the ugliness??

A blued and polished 1911 with fine wooden grips is a thing of beauty. A Glock is a pistol of function. No comparison at all. If you want something to go BANG every time you pull the trigger, get a Glock. If you want to spend 4 to 5 times the money and carry it to a Bar-be-que on Sunday, buy a top notch 1911.

I carry my G36 places I would never carry my 1911's. Might scratch that beautiful finish. Scratches on a Glock add character.

Thanks for reminding me why I'm never going to buy a Glock. I was neutral about it for while, but the shear number of similar posts on this and other forums has convinced me that I don't want anything to do with Glock. In fact, the only unique thing about Glock is the mindset of so many of the owners.

I've had many Glocks in most calibers. All of them were 100% reliable. I do some IDPA shooting and have never seen a Glock jam in a match. I think they are nice looking enough but like their simplicity, reliability, durability and accuracy the most. I keep going back to Glock when gun money becomes available. I had an XD that was good. Like Glock better. Might have to try an M&P sometime. Glock reliability gives me confidence that the pistol is going to work if I ever need it.

I was one who swore that I would never own a Glock. I just bought one yesterday, and ran 150 rounds through it at the range. Love it-very accurate and reliable. Of course my 'old' former police issue S&W 4566 will always be my favorite 'sexy' gun, but I kind of like my guns to be like my women-fast, loose, easy to use and slightly ugly. Oh, and I really like my fugly Hi Point 995, too.

When I want hot and sexy, I ride my Harley. Whatever floats your boat.

I forgot to mention that all my Glocks have eaten everything I've ever fed them - every type of bullet and load. Not a picky eater. Even my early reloading experiments. Stylish, maybe not so much. Reliable, you can bet your life. I think they look good. Beautiful compared to a HiPoint. No comparison.

in this beauty contest thread, why glock fans keep talking about functionality?

glock is a good gun function wise, no one is disputing that, but we are talking about looks and looks only, no?

Looks and functionality are related. The nicest looking pistol that you can't trust isn't worth anything. I'd rather have a pistol that looks okay compared to other pistols but I can trust. Glocks are not the ugliest pistols I've seen. I kinda like their looks. They look tacticool. All business.

Maybe I'm alone on this but I've always liked how glocks looked, very minimalist chic.

Have been pondering this question for a while. They are tempting, but I am on the fence.
Glock makes terrific pistols. They may be ugly to some, but they are as functional, accurate and reliable as any firearm out there. If you can find one that suits your needs and ergos, grab it. If not, look elsewhere.

glock is ugly to me, that's why I am thinking buying xdm instead

what i don't understand is, over 20 years, why glock can't make it look better? i mean they solved all the hard problems and made a good gun, but the easiest part of making it prettier or at least not such a turn off they screwed up big and refused to correct it, i am 100% sure they lost lots of sales because of the look, if they thought ppl just have to suck it up since they were the only game in town, no any more

granted for civilians most of us will never utilize it as a life defending tool (thank god), having fun look at it, play with it, drool over it is part of the reason we buy guns, like a $10k watch that is not just to get accurate time, why not make it good looking? don't tell me it's hard to do with polymer since XDM and M&P did it well
Really? They're tools, and the Glock design has worked for almost 3 decades. Why would they change the aesthetics just to appease someone's sense of beauty? They're guns, not Ming vases.

One thing for sure...the Glock 23 I carried on a week long backpack trip where it was exposed to continuous rain and hot humid (read sweaty) weather looked beautiful when I got home...where my beautiful Browning HiPower would have been an orange rusty mess. The weight of the Glock added to a 40lb pack was nice looking as well.

my point is glock can have both of the world, why settle for functionality only?

xdm proves it can be both functionally just as sound and at the same time pretty to look at :D

as a consumer who pays hard earned cash, don't settle for less, and if enough ppl voice their true opinion on looks, maybe those in glock will do a better job instead of asking consumers to just suck it up

If you can get over the looks and its Utilitarian nature. You will be VERY happy with it. I carry Glock and do trust my life to it!!!!! But hey SHOOTING IS PREFERENCE!!!

Yeah you really should. I mean sure, absolutely, there are other great, reliable guns out there. But, bottom line, they are just too easy, too reliable, too affordable, and, as long as you don't get the 23, too safe with that half-cock feature to pass up.

Had I to do it all over and had I a lot more money, I would probably be a lot fussier and get only metal framed, DA/SA, hammer fired, frame mounted decocker only control models. How many guns is that? Well Sig...at close to $900 a pop...and precious few others on anything like a regularly available basis.

Leave off the decocker stipulation and now you have a pretty good selection but wait...is my safety on or off? Does it go up or down?

See what I mean? Glocks are just way to simple. And quite frankly, for the price, you can probably put back some cash and after a little saving, you can buy a beautiful revolver or a nice Browning shotgun and admire that you know.

Yeah, you should buy in and just get it over with.

If you are holding up the XD line as an example of handgun beauty, I'm not feeling you brother. Cripes.
i think xdm is very pretty :D
how many of you honestly think this is not a beauty? glock can match the beauty contest, if they want to

Count me. I don't think it looks bad, mind, you. Especially the XD. But the grip of the XDm looks like it could have been designed by a 15 yr old sci-fi dork. If it works for you, then it's beautiful. Nuff said. I don't go around showing off my Glocks, but they're beautiful to me.

The only gun I ever bought because of the way it looked was a 3" Ruger GP100, after watching Faster. lol. (2" 454 Ruger Alaskan, but close 'nuff! :))

My shooting buddy rented a bunch of 45's and shot the M&P the best - a full mag into 2 1/2" at 50 feet. (I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen the target.) And is now buying a Colt Gold Cup, because "it's so shiny!"

CRIPES - We are talking about a deadly weapon!:what:

Have you shot one? How did it work for you? Have you tried others? If not, you owe it to yourself to be sure which is the best for YOU.

If you are buying for looks = you probably are not buying for what is best for you in a life/death encounter.

Shark in the water... Glock in the water, blood in the water.... Plastic in the water. Shark in the water.

The Glock design is a fungus that grows and grows until you succumb to the idea that it is in fact, aesthetically pleasing for what it is and how well it does it. Bringing up functionality is not a fanboy response, it's the bottom line for why people grow to like it and how it looks. The functionality and design were built congruently.

Many guns were built that way, Glocks aren't special. They are just the perceived top dog, and as such, criticism.

who says beauty can't be deadly at the same time? xdm can match (if not better than) glock in terms of functionality, so please stop talking about functionality in a beauty contest thread :D

it's like you ask people is Mary pretty or ugly, they respond she works hard lmao
