I have never owned, shot or held a glock not because I have anything against them just never had the chance too so my question is why are they so popular / what do people like about them?

The beauty (oxymoron?) about Glocks is in it's simplicity. Pull the trigger and BANG that's it. Glocks have only 33 parts excluding the magazine. Check out the Glock Torture Test, it's pretty impressive. Glock also has outstanding customer service. I live near Glock in Smyrna GA and I can go take my G26 there anytime to get it checked out or repaired. They don't charge anything and will even swap out older magazines with new ones at no charge, all while you wait.

I was a Glock hater until I got one. No regrets.

My G-s

They work, they work every time, they always work every time. O.K., maybe they are big and broad and clunky-looking, etc. So's my gal. But she sure can cook, and stuff. "Beauty is in the eye..." I have other guns, but my favorite is the G-s. I have a set of consecutively serialized Detonics CM-s that I like to show off. I have a Randall Raider and a LeMay. I have Springfield 1911-pattern, plus an AMT45-Backup, and a Taurus Tracker. Among others. All my hand-guns are .45ACP except KelTeks in 9mm. Glock makes no excuses for model-change improvements in their search for "PERFECTION", and they do listen to their customers. "Gunny" didn't sell me on G. Anyone who has stared into the barrel of a G will tell you they were impressed. Folks who can't change from 1911- and other "natural point-of-aim" pieces have simply to learn to use the technique of aiming by using the sights that come on all guns, IIRC. Dao.

The weight (actually, the lack of it)...thats what I like...and a single stack sub-compact 45acp that runs (G36)

In reference to the above mention of point shooting...just a little practice, thats all it takes (retrain the muscle memory)

you just cant beat a glock they have unmatched reliability, they can handle thousands of rounds, and all of them i have gotten ahold of have been very accurate.

They are great guns at a great price. They are durable, reliable, fit my hand well, have high capacity mags, and I just like their looks.

If you can, go rent one and try it for yourself. It's not that spectacular, the looks of it are plain and simple, but it's easily the most dependable-to-go-BANG gun on the market and that lends to the user a confidence that is more often than not completely justified. If a pistol is your only defensive option, this pistol is the one you reach for when a threat requires it. That's the bottom line.

Although, if you look at it long enough, YOUR Glock is prettier than your friend's Glock.

I never wanted or considered a Glock pistol, until I shot one. Had to have one, a G34 for IPSC and IDPA, and a G17 with Trijicon night sights I bought used just this Sat. I tried to get an H&K P30L but the Glock was half the price, a SIG P226R but the Glock was $300 less, I did my homework, especially the math. The Glock is equal or better than pistols twice it's price IMO.

I never liked the idea of buying a Glock either, I just figured I could get a more refined (e.g. less blocky, more ergonomic, better trigger, etc.) pistol for the same money. I'm currently in the market for a medium sized pistol to tote around in the woods/carry in my car and was pretty set on getting a Cz p01 to go along with my full sized 75B. Then I made the mistake of renting a Gen 2 G19 at a local range.... the ergonomics were still not that hot, but it was slick, accurate, had a good trigger and I shot great with it. I'm pretty sure I'll picking up a G19 in the very near future.... never though I'd say that. There's definitely still a place in my stable for a p01 in the future, but that purchase may have to come after a Glock..... or two..

I have gone through a lot of brands and platforms; Sig, S&W, Ruger, Colt, customized Springfield 1911 and so forth. I didn't shoot any of them better than my Glock 19. I am of the belief of sticking with what works best for you.

In addition to the above which I have found to be quite true, nobody beats Glocks after purchase support. Glock magazines and holsters are everywhere and much more reasonably priced. Glocks are easy too modify or repair at home with no special tools required.

If you want to return your Glock to the factory for inspection they will inspect and replace any worn parts for free. They will then test fire, clean and return your gun. If you want night sights they will install or replace them for $61. If you live close enough they will do this while you wait.

Glock magazines are interchangeble within caliber. I own 9mm Glocks in several sizes. G17, G19, and G26. The 17 round and 33 round magazines will fit and function in any of them. No matter which Glock I have with me I only carry the G17 mags as spares.

There are several good guns out there, but nobody else offers the total package to shooters the way Glock does.

When confronted are you concerned about looking good or going bang? My Glocks go bang everytime, never a failure.

Inexpensive, reliable, rugged, parts availability, inexpensive parts, magazine/holster/parts interchangeability...the list goes on and on.

I have only recently been assimilated...I mean, er, uh I just bought my first glock last year. Getting the hang of the trigger took some practice. For me, that was the biggest hang-up because IMO a crisp breaking 1911 trigger is perfection. Once I got over that hump, I started to enjoy shooting the glock...and now there's a g19 in my waistband instead of my favorite carry 1911.

It is an ugly little pig, but I really enjoy shooting it.

They are popular for a lot of reasons, mostly due to their well deserved reputation for reliability, customer service, price and performance. Many people dwell too much on the Glock's appearance or it's unusual feel but if you can get past other shooter's biased opinions and give the gun a chance 99 times out of 100 most shooters will be hooked.

I like them because I can get a gun, from full-sized to sub-compact, in a wide variety of calibers and never have to switch platforms. From a sub-compact 9mm (the Glock 26) to it's full-sized, competition-ready brother the Glock 34 to the 10mm, the .357 SIG to the .45 ACP models are all essentially the same gun. It may not be your thing if you want a wide variety of different looking guns in your collection but from a carry/defensive/competition standpoint you can have several choices but not have to relearn anything.

I have 5 Glocks and can easily see me collecting another 3 or 4 more!

I finally bought a couple just out of curiosity. The G 23 and the 26. Love the 26 (with extended mag). Having accuracy problems with the 23 but I'll get there eventually. I've had the same problem with other .40's, but with the 26, I was spot on from the start. I'd shoot it every day if I had the time and $$. I do carry it daily.

I bought a glock 19 gen4 3 weeks ago and took it to the range this past week along with my xd's. Personally i could not group with the glock as i did with the xd's. It fit great in my hands but it has a totally different trigger. The only advantage i liked was its size and high capacity mags, other than that nothing special.

I like revolvers. I don't particularly like semi-autos. I have more than my fair share of both, and my Beretta 92 Steel I is a functional work of art, but I reload and therefore don't like chasing my brass hither and yon at the range.

That being said, I needed a semi-auto to go to Front Sight. Interestingly, Front Site gives away XDs, but they rent Glock 17s... So I decided to purchase a Glock 17 Gen3 and a S&W M&P to compare before heading to formal training. (I didn't consider the XD because of its grip safety. Ironically, most of the people in my shooting class who experienced malfunctions were shooting XDs.)

The M&P feels great in my hand, and is a relatively handsome beast (sorta). The Glock 17 is... well... a Glock. Before I took them to the range for show and tell, I was CERTAIN the Glock would be history.

Then a surprising thing happened. The Glock 17 went bang every time I pulled the trigger, and the bullets all hit remarkably close to where I was aiming. The M&P also functioned flawlessly, but was not as accurate as the Glock. I also really liked the short, definite, trigger reset on the Glock, while the M&P's trigger reset was longer and kinda mushy. So they both went to Front Sight, but the Glock 17 was all I used.

The end of the story is that the S&W M&P will be going to the local gunshow in a week or so (and not coming home), while the Glock 17 will soon have a twin in the gun safe. No, I don't really like semi-autos. But in certain situations, they're the only rational choice.

Hey, maybe Glocks are for people who don't really like semi-autos...
