Go in to put a Beretta 92FS on layaway, walk out with something else on layaway

I went to my local FFL dealer to put money down on the Beretta 92FS. I get in there, and ask if they have more than one in stock. The clerk goes to the back and looks, comes back and tells me the display model is the last one. Now I personally don't like to buy display models anymore, because the last one I bought had minor scratches and blemishes, but it shoots nicely (Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec). So instead I put a Glock 23 on layaway. I will be picking it up in a couple weeks, so yeah I'm happy I'm getting another Glock. It will feel no different from my G19 other than recoil, which I'm sure I can get used to with enough practice, plus I can still use the same holster, which is nice!

Only you can decide if you made the right decision. I almost bought a 23 recently for the same reason (I'm familiar with my 19 and love the way it shoots) but since I'm still trying to build up my collection there are so many other makes/models that tempt me so I opted to pass and pursue a SIG or CZ instead (want to try a good DA/SA gun to see how my trigger preferences lie). Nothing wrong with Glocks, I just want to own others for the sake of diversity. Gotta love how the 23 can shoot .357 SIG with a simple barrel change though, if you have any interest in that round.

I'd eventually like to have a Glock in each caliber...and the ONLY thing holding me back from a G20 right now is the price of ammo.

I look forward to your impressions of the 23 vs the 19!

Not to ruin your fun or anything, but couldn't you get a barrel that'll switch the caliber in your 19 to .40 and with a little more cash pick up the Beretta? :D

Beat me to it varoadking, but no Mike it's not possible, or advised to try such a thing. It's possible to go down in calibers with certain guns but I've never heard of one being able to fire higher-caliber ammo with a barrel change. Even then, I'm not sure it would be the wisest thing to attempt.

Good luck with your G23 - I'm sure you'll like it. As an owner of several Glocks and SIGs, plus one Beretta 92FS, I can say the G23 is definitely a tool you can bet your life on (I do - my G23 is my nightstand gun). That said, I consider owning a Glock the same way I look at owning a Snap-On brand tool - it's one of the best for its intended purpose, but when not in use it sits in the garage. And don't sweat the recoil - my G23 isn't that much snappier than my G19.

However, IMO, either a SIG or a Beretta is a work of art that you can shoot. If you have the opportunity in the future, treat yourself to either a 92FS or a SIG. Don't think of it as just another gun - it's an heirloom. But that's me.
