Well, I am going to go look at the Taurus handguns, lock or no lock. Arghhhh.
I am not very familiar with them and I need help to know what I am looking at.

What is the difference between the 24/7 's of say 2 years ago and the new one with the "SADA" trigger? How are they marked on the slide etc. How can I tell what I am looking at? What is the difference in the triggers of various models. What's with some new scaled down 24/7 I heard about? Is it just a new version of the Millenium or Millenium Pro? etc. etc.

Lets hear from all the Taurus owners. All input will be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

No expirience w/the 24/7 but I have shot the pt111 (9mm), pt92 (9mm) & pt101 (.40 s&w). They were all great and all accurate..the pt111 was surprisingly accurate just to small for me to consider... the 92 & 101 are, as far as I saw and felt, exzact clones of the beretta 92 & 96 and were just as nice. Id consider that classic design too !

Hey Walkalong how ya doing?

Well you knew I was going to jump on this thread for sure! The 24/7 Pro is the new SA/DA. The Millennium Pro is a different model. I wish I could show you my catalog. If you were closer I would go to the range with you and you could shoot mine. What caliber are you thinking of buying by the way? The 9mm and the .40 have the soft rubber grip, it is awesome. As you know I have two .40 cal. One thing you may have noticed too is the 1911 grip angle. I could write you a long testimony on how no matter what ammo I put though the 24/7 it never jams or FTF or FTE. It is easy enough to field strip. The first time you pull out the take down pin, prepare to curse. [I do not have children at home so I let er rip] After that it gets easier. I just covered it with cloth and pulled it out with a pare of pliers the first time. It is an accurate gun and man it is a really good rapid fire gun. That son of a gun rapid fires like a dream! This gun Rocks! Anything esle you want to know, just ask, no problem. Take care buddy!

The best to you and yours!

Frank

PS. forgot to tell you the 24/7 DAO is extinct, no longer made by Taurus.

Keep it coming guys - Thanks

How is individual recoil of the 9, .40, .45? Smooth, tourqey, (is that a word) as in torques to the side. . etc. of each caliber. ( I'm a big .45 fan for plinking) but I like to shoot my fourty some and nine is cheap to shoot. I am interested in all 3.......Lean towards .45 of course.
I became interested in th 24/7 when it came out but would not take a serious look because of its DAO trigger. I did like the feel of the new 24/7 when I picked it up. I just got turned off by the lock. Was not expecting it. Had to pull back and regain myself. I'm still trying. :)

The new models with the DA/SA trigger say PRO on the slide. After you rack the slide there is virtually no force need to bring the trigger the the break point. Once you pull the trigger it goes back to feeling like a light da pull with resistance all the way thrul. I have not tried the old non-pro models but I really like my Pro long slide model in 9mm.

That's not correct for the Milleniums. There were a number of DAO-only PRO models, including my PT745. The newest version of the same gun IS DA/SA, but I actually prefer the DAO version. One, it's as safe as a revolver in deep concealment carrying, and two, unlike the new ones, it uses three-dot sights for which there are Trijicon replacements. The new one has an incompatible straight-8.

My Taurus pistols

My .02- For daily carry I like my PT-145 Pro.It's compact, reliable and a serious force to rekon with.Including todays outing it has digested over 1100 rounds in its 2 month life and has responded flawlessly.

For lots of fun shooting I absolutely love my PT1911. She has performed equally as well with nearly 1400 rounds so far.

My wife's personal protection is a Rossi (byTaurus) SS snubby in .357 mag.
She's very effective with it and I pitty the fool that attempts to come between her and her family.

I have many other brands of handguns but dollar for dollar Taurus can't be beat. I am a Taurus fan.

Once you pull the trigger it goes back to feeling like a light da pull with resistance all the way thru.

That's only true if you're dry-firing. In live fire, the pistol resets back to it's SA trigger pull each time. (Unless you have a fail-to-fire. Then you go back to a DA pull.)

FWIW, the having the lock there is a total non-issue for me. There's no way the lock can become engaged by accident, I never use it, and it doesn't interfere with the function in any way. It's like having airbags on your farm tractor. Big deal.

Not a 24/7, but two of my favorite guns to shot (pure pleasure) are my Taurus pt99 .9mm and my Taurus Gaucho .45LC. Built well & fun to shoot. They have made me a fan of Taurus.

As I understand it...

1'st generation... Millenium (no Pro) - Prone to breaking subframe pins and frame cracks. DON'T BUY ONE.

2'nd generation...Millenium Pro. Says Millenium Pro on one side of the slide and the model on the other (PT-140 in my case). Second digit of the serial number seems to mostly be "Y". DAO trigger. Seems to be a nice gun.

3'rd generation...Millenium Pro. My understanding (may be incorrect) is that it says Millenium on one side of the slide and Pro on the other and the second digit in the serial number is always a "Z". DA/SA trigger.

The Taurus PT1911 is THE BEST gun bargain today. :what:

Was that over the top? I can never tell.

I have a 24/7 DAO 45,a PT745 Millenium Pro DAO,and a PT140 Pro(SA/DA).The new SA/DA trigger is awesome,and I really didn't mind the DAO of my 745 all that much.There is a noticeable difference between the two,but they're both workable...

Shootcraps,I like your thinking, but the best bargain in guns today,in my opinion only,of course,is the EAA Witness steel frame guns, especially the Elite Match series...$429 OTD and it shoots like an STI...;)

But I don't want to hijack the thread,so I'll say again that I've got the PT-140 Pro,and it is now my primary carry gun,due to the SA/DA trigger,it's awesome...:D

Thanks. But I'm not fond of EAA. Had a Witness and it never worked right, even after a trip back and their gunsmith calling me a liar. :cuss:

I love my PT1911 and can't wait for the stainless CCO model.

Was it a steel frame?Witness pistols seem to be a lot like Kahr arms guns, the steel frame guns work great, but the plastic ones suck...:barf:

Yes. Steel frame compact 10MM Witness in wonder finish. Would have been an awesome gun if it worked.

I have the 24/7 Pro in 9mm. The "pro" designation, as far as I can tell, means it gets the Heinie straight-8 two dot sights. Took some time to get used to them, now I love them!!! (quick acquisition)

Those ribber grips...heaven on earth. Nice grip angle, too.

Not too heavy, not too light. Nice, fairly low bore axis in your hand.

Pretty accurate, it's no match pistol, but you knew that. 100% reliable (the first pistol I've ever owned that I can say that for) and a breeze to shoot rapid-fire.

17+1...gotta love hi-capacity. Let a friend shoot it who's used to 7 rounds of .45 at a time... I told him to dump the mag. At about the 13th round, he looked at me and said "Man, this thing just don't quit!"

The "billboard rollmark on the slide... a little gawdy, but I'll live.

Good, stiff manual safety. Easy takedown. Unobtrusive controls.

The SA/DA trigger with restrike capability... I like the idea, but the SA trigger is kinda poor. Long take up, about 1/4th inch stacking after the take up, then a fairly heavy break... I'd guess about 6.5 lbs on mine. Honestly, the trigger is kinda crappy. But then again, I'm comparing it with a Colt 1911 with a custom 3.25 lb pull installed. (A real Colt, lightweight commander)

I carry mine all day, every day. First Taurus product I ever bought, with more to come. I really like the pics of that new 24/7 OSS, with the longer slide and ambi safety/decocker in .45ACP.

Just passing through. Try www.unitedforums.com and click onto the Taurus Forum. This is where the 24/7 and other Taurus owners lurk besides here. Ask away or participate any way you want to. As a Taurus owner I thought you could , and other Taurus types, use this resource.
