Going to Hospital on a college campus

Two problems with this. First, it's illegal to have a gun on campus (including being locked in your car). If I were the cop I would be suspicious of someone who needed to go back to their car after seeing a metal detector. Even if I were to go that route, I didn't see it until I was getting ready to go through it. Partly because I didn't have to think of this issue (I can't carry yet) and because I too have never seen a metal detector in an emergency room.

Ok, so in this situation you've accidentally broken the law by carrying on campus, and then into the hospital. You remember that you're carrying when you hit a metal detector. Best bet is still to return your sidearm to your car.

In my opinion, that's the best way to rectify your mistake. While technically still illegal, at least you're no longer carrying it.

You could drive back home and drop it off, but then you're leaving your wife.

This is easy one to solve.

As you approach the metal detector and realize you are still packing your roscoe simply pat your pocket and tell the officer that you forgot your insurance card and will be right back. It happens all the time in hospitals.

When I checked in to the regional trauma center in Dayton Ohio, (Miami Valley Hospital), I had to go through a metal detector where they detected my 2 pocket knives. I had to surrender both knives at the desk. They were placed in a zip lock bag with my name on it, and returned to me when I checked out 3 days later.

This hospital is where all the shot up gang bangers wind up, so I can understand the security protocol. Any local hospital I've been to, there weren't any metal detectors.
