I'm going to be driving to Texas for Thanksgiving and I need info on possessing in my vehicle. I just moved to AZ, so I don't have an AZ CCW for reciprocity purposes. My old CCW is no longer valid as I am no longer a resident of the state it was issued in. I know I can't CCW while in Texas, but what are my options for in the vehicle? Can I have it in plain sight in the passenger compartment or can I have it concealed in the passenger compartment. Can it be loaded? Or am I stuck with keeping it in the trunk? And if so, can it be loaded or does it have to be unloaded. I'm retired military and have absolutely no criminal record. Thanks for any info on this.

In Texas a person may carry a loaded handgun anywhere in a vehicle without a CHL as long as the weapon is out of sight. In other words, concealed.

Texas Penal Code 46.02 (a)

Okay for concealed and loaded in the vehicle. Gotta leave it in the vehicle when wandering about. No problem with carrying it from your vehicle to whatever place of residence you enter (motel, friend's/family's house, e.g.).
