Hi, it's me again with a new qeustion. I am intersted in buying another pistol. This time I am interssted in an .45. Which .45 gun would you recomend.

Greetings from austria.

Agent00

It's .45 ACP = Automatic, Colt Pistol

The 1911, Colt Goverment Model and other
Clones have various .22 LR Conversion units
available. Do you have a range where you could
go and rent various types of handguns chambered
in .45 ACP? WHat, if any are the gun laws as to
ownership - number of pistols, etc.

I looked at a lot of the 1911 offerings and decided
on the S&W 1911. It does have some proprietary parts
to the design though where the only recourse if a problem
comes up is to send it in to S&W. Your location might
determine your choice to be more sensible to get a Colt or
a clone as close as possible to the original 1911.

Another one to consider, in .45 ACP, is the S&W 625
Large (N) frame revolver. I have one and it's my favorite
revolver. Recoil is easy to manage and very accurate.

Get a 1911. There are many good manufacturers, but I am partial to Springfield Armory.

S&W 4566. Great pistol for plinking and HD. Police trade ins can be found for cheap, and mags are plentiful.

Accurate, reliable, and heavy. My favorite DA/SA 45 pistol.

Thx for your answers

@BlindJustice Here in austria it is possible to own 2 guns, and yes I have to chance to go the range test some 45 pistols. I would be possible to test, an hk usp, an colt 1911, and an sig p220.

Great if you have a range, and all three are excellent
choices. Would a .22 LR conversion unit for a 1911
count as a 2nd handgun?

CUrious, waht do those three pistols run cost wise
in AUstria? or what do they run at a store that has an
example of each?

Randall

I would recommend GLOCK, H&K, or Sig.

I am currently convincing myself I don't need another P220, but N.I.B. on sale for $529 is too ridiculous too ignore much longer. It should cover your day-to-day S.D. and plinking needs.

BlindJustice I can get an used colt 1911 for 400 euros, and an brand new sig p220 would cost 599€. An brandnew usp would be the most expensive pistol. I would cost 700. And an .22 LR conversion unit would not count as an second gun. I will test the handguns tomorow, und mayby I have also the chance to test an smith%wesson 4566.

Hi agent00,If it was me i would go springfield gi pistol.I would also like to start a 460 rowland club, for anybody who owns or would like to own one.to talk about it for those that would like to know about this great cartridge.

Yeah living in Austria how can you not have a GLOCK? That'd be like living in the U.S. and not owning a Colt...

:uhoh:

Buying an Glock wouldn'be a bad idea, but an factory new glock 21 wouldn't cheap, it was cost as much as an new sig p220, ca 600 euro.

I live in the USA, and I don't own a colt. :neener:

I would get the SIG p220. If I could only own 2 handguns, it might opt for the elite in all stainless. The stainless frame will last a bit longer then the aluminum alloy one.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that you won't be able to conceal carry? If not then the extra weight shouldn't be a problem.

But what is your current handgun?

FullEffect1911 You're right concelead carry ist not possible here in austria. And my current handgun is an ruger gp 100. I have also shot very often with an glock 20, and an cz75.

The Gp100 is a great revolver by the way.

But, the major question is: What will be the purpose of this .45? Self defense? Target shooting?

My personal suggestions would vary quite a bit between those two purposes.

My .45 should be an allround gun, suitable for target shooting and in an case of emergency for home defense.

The springfield XD is an very intersting pistol. These guns are here known as hs 2000, and I can get the tactical model with an .5 inch barrel for 450 Euro, thats a bargain. I would be an used model but the condition is very good.

@460 rowland I also think that the 460 rowland is an interresting catrige, but unfortunately this catridge ist quite unknown here in austria.

I've owned a few 1911's over the past 20 years, and I just last month I bought my first Glock (a 21 SF).

The only reason I wouldn't carry the glock is becasue it's so much thicker than the 1911 (thicker is harder to conceal).

If you not going to carry concealed, then that advantage goes away and I'd pick the one that is cheaper. In the USA, a glock is usually much cheaper than a 1911, but if that's not the case in Austria (which I admit seems odd, since they are made there...) then go with the best deal.

1911, XD, glock 21, sig 220.... as was said above... you can't really go WRONG with any of those choices. Personally, the only reason I chose one over the other is the way they feel in my hand. (don't like sigs and XD's, but I don't consider them inferior IN GENERAL, they just don't fit MY hand as well as a 1911)

- just my opinion, I Could be Wrong.
