One can never have too many magazines, and right now I'm considering getting more 30-round AR mags, probably 10 (I have a bunch already, but 10 more can't hurt.)

All the ones I have now are USGI mags made by Okay, Center, and some other company I can't remember. I also have one Bushmaster one that came with my AR. No issues with any of them after a few thousand rounds.

I've been perusing around THR and a few other sites, but can't really get any good reviews on the following magazines:

- Brownells-brand 30 rounders.
- C Products, either with or without the Magpul follower.

I can't imagine that Brownells would sell junk, and the prices are pretty good (hooray for having a C&R and getting the discount). Any advice on the chrome silicon vs. stainless spring?

I've heard of C Products, and their stuff looks to be of good quality, but that's just looks -- I have no idea, having no experience with them. They offer stainless magazines for a bit more, but that seems like a solution in search of a problem; aluminum mags work fine for me. AIM Surplus has some good prices on their standard 30-rounders, but they're backordered for now. Their ones with Magpul followers are a few bucks more, but they have 'em in stock.

Does anyone here have any experience with those magazines? Any information would be most helpful.

Also, other than the two above, what magazines do you recommend? Who's got the best prices going? Do they offer discounts for C&R holders?

Many thanks!

So I've heard. Alas, I'm looking for something in the $8-$15 range each (hopefully around $10) if possible.

at thegunshow last weekend they had usgi mags with the green followers for $10 a pop thatwas brand new in the wrapper just like we get them. there are a few good places on line to get them for that price as well but you will have to pay shipping that won't set you back to much. have approx 30 of the magazines like i described and they ave all been great.
here are some for $109 for 10

C-Products Mags

heypete,

C-Products makes great mags, regardless of price. True, HK mags are the Holy Grail, but if you aren't filthy rich, or have a BIG supply budget, I'd give 'em a pass... I have C-Products mags, more than 30, for my 5.56 rifles, and 24 for my 6.8SPC rifles. Will I buy more? Yep, sure will. Oh, I have more than a hundred of other makers, but C-Products is my choice, and they support our troops overseas rather well... At AR15.com, we saw how they emptied their warehouse, and sent the mags to Irag, charging only THEIR cost for them. The pork chops(read that as Supply Corps) can't even get spare parts or new mags for our guys... They're using 100mph tape, surgical tape, cord, anything they can find, to keep their mags together... Well, C-Products did what nobody else did, and stood up to the plate... They've got my business, as long as I breathe and can shoot...

oldrifleman, out...

Hmm. Sounds like the way to go, then. Giving stuff to the troops for their cost definitely gives me their support.

Any comments on the C-Products mags with the magpul follower? I'd imagine the USGI green follower would be perfectly adequate, as I've had no problem with it in any other mags.

Check out the AR15.com mag forum ... there were some quality control issues relating to the most recent group buy of CProducts mags.

I have many CP mags and will buy more, but I am staying away from current production CP mags until they get things ironed out.

If I had to buy more mags today I'd try to get NHTMG mags or Centers (if I could find them ... Talon Arms used to carry Centers but they're out now).

I just ordered a few from these folks this morning..............

http://www.buylci.com/

go to the left side of the page and click on the Preview/Shop As Guest link...........

In the search box, type in 1005009215004 , should come up 30 round AR mags from Okay Ind...

Price includes shipping.............

Hope this helps. For real deal AR stuff, go to www.ar15.com

Hard to go wrong with the USGI stuff, if it works, why change?

Rich (yeah, I have some H-K mags.............) in VA

IMO H&K..

But I have read good things about the mags mentioned above.. Like anything, one can always get a Lemon!

John Masen Company makes an excellent 9 round AR magazine.
They are actually the outsource producer for Colt.
You can buy them from the same place I now buy my AR 20 and 30 rounders.

http://www.brownells,com

Hands down Brownells is offering some of the most reliable AR magazine I have ever used.
They now have straight side 20 rounders which are perfect for Match shooting. HTH

In that price range

C Products will be your best bet, Although any time I find any AR mags stamped "Adventure Line" I snap them up. They always work well, but saddly they are no longer made any more.

+1. I'm looking to pick up a few more of these. Would you go with a chrome silicon spring or a stainless steel spring?

Pro-mags are also high quality and very dependable. I stick to 20rds, I can't imagine needing more than that for the type of shooting I do.
Orlites are an israeli contract polymer mag, I'm not a big fan of polymer though. AR-Stoner is high quality and in your price range.
I've been told to stay away from National magazines and Triple-K.

Pro-Mag is garbage plain and simple, avoid them like the plauge. Bravo Company has 30 round D&H magazines with a Grey Teflon finish (inside&out). These mags are made on tooling from LaBelle (former USGI contractor). I bought 10 of them a few weeks ago, and after a range test I was impressed. They run 100% flawless, and for $12 you get whats probably one of the best AR magazines on the market.

I also have 14 of the Brownells 30 round magazines as another poster recomended, andut of 14 I got two that didnt run right (double feed). Brownells replaced them with no trouble, but if I had it to do over again I would have just bought the D&H mags.

+1. I'm looking to pick up a few more of these. Would you go with a chrome silicon spring or a stainless steel spring? The chrome silicon springs offer no advantage over stainless seel IMHO.

Stainless Steel since the chrome silicon spring require regular cleaning/oiling to prevent rust.

wdlsguy, I have some of each and I can't really discern any real difference between them.
I did leave one of the thirty round chrome silicone magazines fully loaded for over seven months or better and then tried it out.
It functioned just fine and continues to do so.
I would say get whatever they happen to have in stock when you order.

The twenty round straight sides are catch as catch can. Very popular and they have trouble keeping them in stock.

The most recent magazines have date codes on them.
Good to have if you live in a state where the elected officials are considering a magazine capacity limit with a grandfather clause like, oh, say, Illinois.

If you do get CP mags make sure there good there are issues, I have seen them first hand in every carbine class i taught this year.

P mags hk and D&H have been great................ CP mags when good run great..... make sure of at least 200 rounds rounds down range at least before making them duty ready

P mags Hk and D&H have been great................

"Heckler & Koch because you suck and we hate you"

I want somebody to tell me what makes the new Hk mags worth the $40-$50 a pop I see them selling for. To me they just look like another piece of "high speed" gear for the gotta have it crowd. Oh wait they have Hk stamped on the bottom so that must make them worth at least $50 more than their selling for at the moment. Somebody call Hk and tell them they are not charging enough for their AR mags. I swear some people would pay big $$$ for a freshly laid turd as long as it has an Hk logo on it.

Glockfan.45 still hating Hk right back.

I doubt I'll make your's an HK day, Glockfan, but my admittedly limited experience with AR mags includes some from Colt, C Products and ProMag, all of which have had feeding problems and/or failed followers.

After a few months of living with that, I tried an HK mag when I encountered them at a gun show. Yes, it was pricey ($40), and I'm not sure the price differential is justified.

But now I've had several months of using them, with zero feeding or follower problems, so I like 'em (the mags, not necessarily the company). Their distiguishing feature, AFAICT, is the steel follower that doesn't suffer the alignment/feeding problems that seem to affect the plastic followers.
