Good article on the new HK 45....

This turns out to be a HK bashing thread. I actually own one polymer gun, and it is a HK P2000. I have owned Glocks and could not shoot them well because of the awkward grip. My HK P2000 is 100% reliable, fits my hand very well, more accurate than G17 or Sig 228, and actually cost me $100 less than the Sig. :)And, the HK CS was better to me than the Sig CS, believe it or not.
With all of this, I disagree with the HK bashers. I do not think that HK45 will cost as much as $1200 and look forward to its release.

But the question is whether your walther is 100% german made. Does it have the proof marks and stampings. My guess is it isn't.

Yes, it does have the proof marks and stampings. If you are paying more than $600 for a Walther P99 you are getting ROYALLY ripped off, and $600 is a pretty bad deal.

And on topic, I think the HK45 looks like it would be a good gun, but as with the current HKs, I would probably just wait for a decent price on a used one, the prices on new ones just never seem worth it, even on sale.

Stirring up the silt on the pond floor...

I just played around with both the fullsize and compact versions of the HK45 today after a relaxing time at the shooting range. So to the net I went looking...

I have a USP-45,my only complaint is that it is not the decock only variant. It shoots 2" groups regardless of ammoe most every time at 25-30 yrds.Stove piped a few times when new but has been 100% for 10 + years.

I have a Glock M20 and an M21... both are reliable and very accurate with what ever...2" groups at 25-30 yrds.

I have a Springfield XD-45 DE Compact...same basic story as the others.

I have a SIG P-220...also same basic story.

I just got an FNP-45 four days ago and took it out for it's trial run today...500 rnds,no malfunctions other than difficult to feed first cartridge of first two magazines.10-12" groups of five when loaded one cartridge at a time no magazine...I had seen a thread talking about this odd deal, with mine it is true!Ok,hear is the realy cool part...two hand 1",ie one hole,14 rnd groups at 25 yrds messured off!!! Full magazines into ONE hole!!Repeatedly!!:what:The only reason this pistol shot wider groups was do to my owne excitement!!! To me this is the best out of box pistol I have ever shot.Revolver or semi.A total pleasurein every way.If even most of the others are like this one HK is in trouble!! Have any of you seen the FNP-45 Military prototype? If that one actualy comes to be I'll get TWO!!

Sorry for the run on but this BIG girl is just so impressive!! And there in lies the problem for most folks it would seem...It is BIG!! Fortuneately for me I have hudge gorilla hands.:D

Back to the HK-45. I personaly quite like it.Even with my all too resent experience at the range with my knew FNP-45. I would have prefered that it had retained the two lost rnds in favor of a thicker side to side grip profile as it feels too narrow to my hands. If it where thicker it would feel perfect to me.$995.00 +$10.00 background check.

Out of all the handguns I own and have owned I like the USP/HK45 magazine releases the best.I freakin' love the slide release on th HK-45! Secound to that I like the FNP-45 magazine release.

I will get an HK-45 becuase I like like my USP-45 and it feels rather nice AND I like guns! I am fairly sure it will shot just as well as any of the others. However IF I could only have one semiauto .45 it would be the FNP-45 hands down!! US made and I got mine for $513.00 total and it came with 3 14 rnds mags!!!:D

Just thought I would toss that out there.

As for the rest of the HkATERS out there, heres some food for thought. I buy guns for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes its for collecting, sometimes its for plinking, and sometimes its for duty. When I'm purchasing for the latter, price is usually my last concern. My first questions are 1) is it reliable, 2) is it accurate, 3) does it shoot well.

I don't ever sit there and ask "does it break the mold", or "is it revolutionary". All I want to know is whether its really good at sending small projectiles where I want them to go and does it fit my various criteria.

Amen. There's so much talk of price here. So, if the gun was a gift, or I won it, I should be concerned about it's price in evaluating it? Price, for the most part, is irrelevant. If I want it and can afford it, fine, and if I can't, or won't, so be it, but it doesn't make the gun any less of a good gun than it is. Take price out of the picture, and what you can get another gun for, and there's little left to argue about other than the gun itself. Having actually shot one, or even held one, really helps.

I have an HK45 and I consider it to be a fantastic pistol. It's accurate, reliable, and shoots extremely well.

So, if the HK45 cost $450 would it be a great weapon?

HK fan here as well. If it weren't for military and police contracts, HK would still be making sewing machines and bicycle parts. Over the years, it is those contracts which have buttered their bread. (Not civilian sales.)

So, they're not big on customer service, or so I've heard. Why? As a current owner of about 10 of these gems, I have YET to use their customer service.

Whereas I hear that Keltec has outstanding customer service. Again, so I've heard since I've never owned one. But my brother has a P3AT and he told me they were GREAT the two times he had to send his little 380 in.

Hmmm, personally, I think I'll deal with the "attitude" and buy, at least what I consider, one of the finest, most reliable, and accurate guns in the world.

I own several and I've not paid anywhere close to the price Hauptman quoted. I am a Fan due to hands-on experience. Customer Service has been more than satisfactory over the years. I have used them to back up warranties, refurbish a P9S, install sights, and for other purposes and have yet to be disappointed. Just my experience with HK. I really like the new P30 and the HK45c (as well as all the other USP models). They make even me seem like an accomplished marksman.

Yeah, it's downright silly to quote retail prices. Street price is a very different thing and is the only relevant factor. BTW, CDNN was selling the HK45 for $829 which is about what I paid for mine.

IMTHDUKE: You're going to LOVE the HK45. Other than my P7s, it is my all time favorite gun - ever! (And I've had and have a bunch) If you like your P30, multiply the fun factor by two!

I've had an HK 45 for about a month now. Great ergonomics, and a wonderful SA trigger. The DA is poor. Overall, I'd say it is a very good handgun.

A post of mine from a few years that folds in experience with an HK .45 USPc, and experiences with the online fanboy community into the pages of the J. Petermann catalog from Seinfeld:

It's a hot night. The mind races. A 17 hour flight to La Paz is etched in red traces on my eyeballs. I had packed my HK USP .40S&W with its captured recoil buffer system and Peters Stahlish lock up. I had two of its priceless magazines in a futuristic custom Bladetech retention system. Sweat trickles down the small of my back, saturating my black lock-knit HK polo shirt and threatens to soak my Royal Robbins Khaki travel pants. Good thing I am carrying strong-side rather than the tactically incorrect small-of-back. My feet feel resilient in my Himalayan walking shoes. I thumb the decocker--or is it the safety? I can never tell and in the thin air I vow once again to never admit to anyone it might bother me.

Against a haze of air starved bugs and the cacaphony of a strange tongue clawing its way into the oxygenless atmosphere, I feel the Hostile Environment finish on the lever of the USP where I have it hidden from prying eyes. I try to reassure myself about my beyond top secret assignment. I feel the stippled black polymer--never call it plastic--and it feels like money--or at least like a credit card chewed upon by a teething kitten.

Nevertheless I feel better now. If I ever have to shoot from the bowels of an outhouse, the guts of a fish processing ship, Pamela Anderson's boudoir--any repellant place at all--I have been reassured by the Company and literally thousands of internet street pros that I carry the final say in handguns. Tension is in the air, maybe I will torture my pistol before the dawn breaks. Maybe I will be tortured myself. . . .

Thirty hours later, lost near the Rio Camblaya following the coup attempt, a welcoming smile. Thank God she spotted the epaulettes on the Norwegian ice-fishing vest concealing my USP. I climb aboard the helo on my way to my next exotic assignment, my HK having proven itself in "combat" once again without ever firing a shot in anger. . . .

The World of Compromise Uncompromisingly cries out to my inner poseur. . . beckoning to me to get onto the internet and tell the rest of the inferior shooting world about the superiority of my sidearm and myself.

HK pistols are overpriced lab queens that have little to no successful track record in extended service with any organization that actually shoots the enemy.

HK has been getting by forever on the strength and daring of the SAS during Operation Nimrod in London in 1980.

As time advances, the SMG has been going the way of the dinosaur and HK has come up with exactly nothing new compelling enough to capture the imagination of most of the actual bullet shooting public. I do hear they are well represented in video games, so that's something I guess.
