I load 124gr XTP's with 5.3gr of Power Pistol as one of my loads of choice. I would like to load some cheaper "range" ammo to duplicate this one as close as I can. I'm only interested in jacketed bullets, no plated or lead. Any good leads on bulk stuff that might be close to the XTP's?

Thanks,

Why no plated ?

Most of the plated stuff from Zero can be pushed way faster than your 9mm could push it before the plating jacket fails.

Try http://www.rmrbullets.com/ you will not be disappointed. Plated or true jacketed- they have a lot of what you need, at prices you cant miss......... the service is excellent.

Zero bullets, Precision Delta bullets, or Montana Gold bullets.

And consider the Berrys 124 Gr HBRN-TP, It can take anything the 9MM can dish out.

Precision Delta .... 124 FMJ are $85 per thousand. Shipping is included on quantities of 2K ... odd lots are $5 extra.

I love these, too. They shoot great and are very consistent.

+1 On RMR. I just shot up 150 for some informal testing through a 357 SIG, loaded with a maximum (but very accurate) charge of AA#9. It worked just fine. I'll be ordering more. I'd order my .40s from RMR but they don't have any 165s. So for that I'm switching to Berry's. I used to shoot Montana gold, but they cost more than plated.

If they hold up to the 357 SIG, they'll hold up to anything in 9mm.

Zero does NOT make plated bullets. They make very good jacketed bullets.
I either shoot jacketed or cast. I tried plated, but they were 100% inaccurate compared to cast or jacketed. They might hit a 6" plate at 20 yards, but that was about all they were good for.
Buy a case of bullets (about 3000) at a time if you really want to save money. Buy JHP over FMJ-RN. Buy from Montana Gold or Precision Delta. If you can ever find Zero bullets at Powder Valley, buy them.
If you are just plinking, buy blems from Midway or Graf and Sons or other sources.
Of course, if you can afford XTPs, what's a few dollars in savings.

You can duplicate the "feel" with many 124gr jacketed bullets. Just load them close to the same "seating depth" into the case with the same powder load. Use JHP's or JFP's to get a similar speed and POI. You do need to start a little low on the powder and work up to stay safe.

MG 124gr (conical nose) JHP's are also relatively inexpensive with free delivery and very like your XTP bullet. This one might be your best match. GREAT Company to order from-fast delivery. These are used by many competitors due to their consistency and being TMJ

I like Zero 125gr JHP's, they should start production on these again-soon. They can be back-ordered at "Shooter's Connection" with free delivery for 2K or more.

Hope this helps

Thanks for all the great leads! I think I'm gonna try out the PD's first, they seem the most economical. They also have JHP for $86/1000. I'm guessing they might better duplicate the XTP. I'll let you know :)

Isn't there a Hotnady bullet specifically made to mimic the xtp but not provide the same terminal performance for a cheaper price? Hornady Action Pistol? HAP...

I don't think your savings would be as much using those when you compare it to Montana Gold or PD.

I bought a case 3k+ of Montana Gold's 124gr FMJ and have been loving them. Great price and fast shipping. The only hiccup was they were held at the post office because no one was home to sign for them at time of delivery. No clue why I would have to sign with regular shipping.

The benefit of Montana Gold is they send as many bullets in a case to get near the max weight the Post Office requires.
The negative is that they are all packed in a single plastic bag. The other companies tend to ship about 1000 bullets to a box and have smaller boxes of 500 bullets that are easier to handle.
I'll take the "inefficient" packaging to get the maximum number of bullets to a case.
One extraordinarily great bullet in the 9x19 is the Zero .38 Super 121gn JHP--if you can get your hands on any.
