Good Grief! Keystone SWAT

A couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine's husband nutted out, threatened her life, held his son hostage and had a nice little stand-off with the police. After he released his son, the SWAT team fired tear gas grenades into the house, the empty cars and a trailer half a block away. They also used a corner of the house to stop their armored vehicle. They then claimed to have seized all of the firearms in the house. The next day, a loaded pistol was found laying beside the bed in the master bedroom. And, yesterday, I found a pistol in it's case in the room he used to do reloading and gun projects. I realize that most police officers are competent and do their best. However, these particular officers seem to be giving cops a bad name. But, it did give me an excuse to give my friend some money. I bought the pistol off of her for my wife. Now, I need to start trying to determine what some of these parts are and selling them for her.:banghead:

1. He is locked away in the loony bin.
2. She had just gotten over her fear of guns, and this just sent her right back.
3. The one I found and bought off of her was his favorite pistol. Way to many bad memories attached.

When the cops were gathering weapons from the house, they actually grabbed her pistol. She said that if she is going to have one, she wants that one, or one like it.

I live in Mansfield. Mansfield has some beat cops that like to wear SWAT hats for the overtime...... They are a bad joke. They do have a shiny new truck however.

Wait a sec: he's locked up (probably against his will, barring him from owning), and they confiscated the guns... ok so far. However, they left HIS favorite pistol, and took HERS?!? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot over?

Ummm, a regional "drug interdiction team" pumped thirteen bullets into a pothead.
They claim he was holding a gun when they did the dirty deed but they were also the only people present when the young man died.

People who knew the pothead said he was the sweetest most mellow person they ever knew,(Go figure,,,), anyway they also say he wasn't goofy enough to go up against a overwhelming number of gunmen either so you can decide for your own self what really happened in that particular house at that particular point in time,,,,,

They asked her where all the firearms were in the house, she told them. They confiscated every firearm they could find.

no ball... I've dealt with a violent pothead: my brother. He wasn't exactly "Mr nice-guy" while clean, but he'd get vindictive as hell when toked-up. I almost killed him in his sleep, because of his tendancies (I was 13, he was in his late 20s, and I was tired of being a punching bag)...

I can't believe that there are two posts here alleging police misconduct on a tactical operation, but not one link to a news article. Aren't there open government laws in Texas or North Central Illinois? Or maybe those things are so common place there the local press doesn't bother to cover them?

If they were jackasses that's that. But I can actually imagine how to ram a house by accident. It could happen if they tried to get as close as possible as fast as possible, and then brake at the last second, Then the driver has not practiced this, driving fast toward a wall and braking, and he has poor vision, so he brakes late - and Smack. Tons of teargas wouldn't have helped either

Looking inside museum armoured vehicles, if he wasn't wearing a helmet then he probably would have bumped his head hard enough to not want to make that mistake again.

In Texas, no. And, every time it comes up in the legislature, the legislature shoots it down. More and more, those cold winters in Montana look good to me.

This looks like the story, and I have three brief thoughts to add.

First, if they were using the vehicle as cover to get close enough to put the gas in the right window, instead of sending an individual officer over the fence into an open back yard, I can easily see hitting the house. Might have been the best way to handle it, not enough information to say for sure.

Second, there is, however, no excuse for a poor search if they were conducting one.

Third, to assume that your friend's troubles are over is a mistake. It may take months or years, but people get out of mental institutions. Unless he's Charles Manson, this guy probably will to. Your friend should be planning on dealing with the situation when that happens. I could be wrong, but in my experiance dealing with emotionally disturbed persons and the mental health system, the general rule is, they'll be back in a month or two.

I know her troubles are not over. But, when he is released from Psych ward, he is going immediately to jail. And, nobody is willing to pay his bail, not even his parents.
