The Rake is a local magazine in Minneapolis that is given away free at cofee shops and hippie health food stores. Not exactly the type of press that you expect reasoned discourse on guns from.

The latest edition was quite surprising, though. The following article is pretty well researched and well written. It is absolutely non-hysterical and about as balanced as you can get from a non-gun magazine.

Every MSM and liberal non-MSM outlet seems to occasionaly throw the "gun-neutral", or even mildly pro-gun piece, out there now and then. Just enough to provide a veneer of impartiality to their anti RKBA and anti CCW agenda the other 364 days of the year.

Either that, or the editors and the majority of the readership is so insulated from the gun-owner's reality, that doing the obligatory "intrepid reporter goes to the range" story makes for "edgy" fodder when they've got some column inches to fill.

I guess I'm just too cynical.

That was very well written. The author has a very easy, conversational style, and except for citing a stat from the blissninnies, kept the article completely apolitical. It would be good if some national magazines would pick this up.

That is a good article. Sometimes it's hard for us to understand the perspective of someone who's in the process of seeing the light. Reading that is a great reminder.

It also shows what a powerful impression the author's dad made on him with a little bit of simple lazy afternoon plinking now and then. Reminds us of the importance of taking a kid shooting with us once in awhile.

Amen! How true.
