Good gun shop experiences

For Southern California, while there are many gunshops... only one really sticks out in my head... and this shop is very well known by the Socal community to having good customer service. And its run by one man too!

Ade's Gunshop.

Nowhere else comes close to the level of service he provides. All the other shops around here act like they're Gods gift to earth to stand around and do nothing at their shops.

I'll second Playboy Penguin's shout for the Gun Broker, and add the Powder Horn out in Forest Grove. Mostly older guns and black powder stuff, but they have a full 'smithing shop. Had a friend looking to get a Lyman #2 tang sight put on a Winchester '94 a couple years ago. Everybody else wanted $60-$75 and had a six-ish week wait. They did it over the weekend and charged him $25.

Four Seasons firearms in Mass

He always has a fair markup on the factory guns he sells, and he will work with you to get the gun repaired if it has a problem. I've had many issues with the guns I bought from him and he ships them back to the factory until they get fixed no questions asked. Ammo is pricey but not insane and he has good sales every couple of months.

Cuda-

Hickman Rifles is at 411 Tia Juana- behind the WalMart at Platte and Chelton. Earl is primarily a riflesmith but does ffl transfers on the side.

The guy LOVES his Garand collection and RRA AR's- good conversation starter.:)

Take care-Anthony

Shooter's Supply in Yakima, WA. I've been TDY in Yakima for 4 1/2 months since Sept, and their the most knowledgible and friendliest store I've ever seen. They're not huge, but they've got a good selection, especially some oddball stuff in ammo. First store I've seen with Hornady 7.5 Swiss SPs or Norma 7.62x54R SPs on the shelf.

They've got a smith shop on site (can't say how good, since I haven't used it) and the owner used to be on the Army shooting team. I bought a Turner Saddlery sling today, and he told me to bring my rifle by so he can show me the proper way to get into the sling with it.

Classic Arms & Archery, Lexington, Kentucky. Good people there. They've been around a little over a year. The people who started it up were the few good folks that worked at a few other crappy stores in town. They got together and did things right. I won't step foot in other places. Condescending, rude, know-it-alls (often quite wrong ) and bad prices.

This place has very nice, easy going, respectuful/respectable fellows who love giving folks the best deal they can.

Anyone shopping around near Lex would do well to check them out.

DJ's up in Bothell, outside Seattle WA. Great selection, prices are mixed but many bargains to be found (search my past posts for a breakdown of bargains over Christmas, when I had far too much time on my hands).

I'm pretty pleased with service at McBride's in Austin TX, though prices aren't necessarily outstanding. I've seen them walk newbie customers through the selection process in a very fair and impartial manner. What's the THR consensus on affordable 9mm pistols for newbies? CZ and XD. What did I just see McBride's staff helping an utter newbie decide between? CZ and XD.

For inexpensive plinkers, I've had good luck at many backwoods Texas pawnshops, who are often happy to get rid of a Marlin semi-auto .22 for $50-60 bucks.

Virginia Arms, in Manassas, is an excellent shop. Friendly, courteous, helpful staff. They also have some of the best prices in the area. (Northern Virginia).
Gilbert's Small Arms Range, in Lorton, VA., is another excellent gun store. Tony Wilcox LTD, in Warrenton, VA., is another favorite of mine. He has an excellent mix of new, used, milsurp and unusual and high-end stuff as well.
Potomc Arms, in Alexandria, was also a great store. I say "was" because, sadly, they are closing after 49 years. Don't care for the shop in Leesburg.

J and J Outdoor sports

In the Albany area....Buy all my ammo there(cheapest in the area)and when I just bought my new 642 there I got almost $100 off right off the bat.Sometimes I just go and hange around in there and no one ever says anything(probably because I end up spending money;) )....also this is the only place that can order certain things, like Safariland speedloaders.

In the Pittsburgh area, the nicest gun shop I've been in is John Brown's Armory in Monaca (maybe?). It's about 45 min from Pittsburgh and 10 min from the airport. The prices are fair and the owner tries to get you what you want without selling you something you don't want (expensive).

Thanks.

I've had good luck at both Wade's in Bellevue and Adventure Sports out in Lynwood. I'm going to try my luck this weekend at Estate Arms in Bellevue.

Gallenson's in downtown Salt Lake City. Nice selection, fair prices, and friendly, knowledgeable people. They make me want to work in a gunshop!

Clarks Guns and Personal Safety is by far my favorite gun shop. They have a GREAT selection of longuns, carbines, pistols,AMMO, parts, & any other firearm related product in a very nice storefront. They get all the new releases which is really nice and they often have some classic long guns. They have a large very very knowledgable staff who is willing to go out of their way to help. Another plus is they have one of the best gunsmithing services and custom shops that I know of. AR's and 1911's is their custom shops specialty. They also offer lots of different classes year round like CCW,Womens only, defensive handgun, tactical shotgun,etc.....and the instructors are Jerry and Kay Miculek which is very cool! The range portions of the classes are at Jerry's range!! The realy cool part is that they are about 10 minutes from my home! If any of you are in Northwest Louisiana Monday - Saturday try checking them out!.

I've puchased firearms at a number of places over the last 25 yrs in the No VA area.(Some places are not around now).
Virginia Arms (they have good prices and good people, very friendly).
Quantico Arms
Green Top (Richmond)
Clark Bros (Warrenton)
Trader Jerry's (Roanoke based but bought at gunshow)
CMP
Davidson's
There was a place in Annadale (I can't remember the name)
There was another place in Woodbridge back in 1980 (B&B guns?) not there anymore.

As far as "shops" go....Best of the best in Kansas City has got to be Denny's Guns in North KC. The place has everything under the sun, and very competitive prices.

The staff is extremely knowlegable and never hesitate to offer help with any questions a customer may have. Decent transfer prices. They'll special order items for you, and I believe they build machineguns.

I have bought many, many guns from them. My most recent was a Plainfield M1 Carbine with mostly GI parts in excellent condition for just over $200.00 about a week ago.

These guys are the real deal, and are about the most pleasant folks to deal with that I have ever come accross. Five stars in my book. Highly reccomended.

+1

I'll say +1 to Classic Arms and Archery here in Lexington, KY. I've been to the other stores, and they're ok. Every time I've been in Classic Arms, though, they've bent over backwards to help me. I respect it even more because I'm only a colege student, and look sorta like a thug when I don't shave for a few weeks if things get busy. I've never had anything but professional treatment outta them.
Just got a custom-ordered pair of Hogue grips, and I think they're gonna order a short barrel for my new/old benelli, and maybe some chokes...

For me, best close by is B&T Shooting Supply in Mentor, OH. They also have a shop & range on the West side of Cleveland.

Good, friendly, knowledgable guys that won't try to 'stick it to ya' or sell you something you don't want, just because it is what is on the shelf.

Good vibes

I have to agree that The Sportsman's Warehouse is a friendly place to brouse or buy. I visit the one in Lewisville, Texas. I buy all my reloading supplies, and gun accessories there. I'll probably buy my next firearm from them also.
