Good, reliable, accurate 1911 for under $1k?

One more vote for a Smith 1911. I'm only basing this on my experience with my Smith. I've owned and shot others and only my Smith has been problem free. True, a couple of others were a once or twice-only jam or failure to eject, but after 1000 rounds, I've had none of that with the Smith.

One man's limited experience...

My one and only cost me $400 and change. It's a Springfield GI.
It is nearly a tack driver, and runs like a top with the exception of
the cheap McCormick 8rounders. They activate the slidestop after
every round. So, I don't use those, and it there are no failures to
do anything.

I can do an STI Trojan for well under that on the group buy price.

I have little personal experience with 1911s, but what friends have said about the 1911s they own all of them said the Smith & Wesson where the most accurate and reliable out of the box. All of them have owned the major brands when they where allowed to be sold in state. Though we now have a limited selection of new 1911s (only three 1911 manufactures are availiable to us, Smith, STI & Para) in Mass do to regulations, most everyone that buys a new 1911 get a Smith & Wesson.

Why the heck do they do that? Shouldn't all 1911 platform single stack guns be allowed, since, well, they're all the same? I don't get it

Long story and difficult to explain but it has to do with Mass Gun/Crime Control act of 1998 and the State Attorney Generals handgun safety regulations
It Doesn't matter if they are all 1911s single stacks, Each manufacture has to send 3 samples of each model they want tested for approval for sale in state.

Anyway about 1911s. I should add that I really like to S&W 1911s from the ones I have handled in the stores and compared to older Colts, Kimbers, and the new Para's (which are mostly double action only)

Let's be thankfull to the politicians of the Republic of Massachusetts for having wisdom and insight in deciding which 1911's are to dangerous for us lowly citizens to have. Because everyone knows that the 45 shot out of the Colt is overly lethatl compared to the STI!:neener:
