My Springfield
Flat1911.jpg

It shoots FANTASTIC.

My other Springfield just last night was giving me 1, only slightly ragged hole, off hand.

@ HK ....... Glad to hear your slide stop has not broke!

Nice looking gun!

Sorry you had to pay an extra $400 for a slide stop tho! :(

No really nice gun.....just had to give stab for giving one! :)

Taurus still a good gun.....(your opinion) does not change (my opinion) in the least, nor does it change my fellow Springfield owner that shot my Taurus and bought one.

And mine may have broken, but never has FTF, FTE, FTF! and a tack driver out of box!

Thanks HK! :)

Not far from C-Town myself.....we moved here after the economy tanked in 99, well because they were still paying top dollar in my field here when it was becoming minimum wage in the mountains.

I miss the mountains, It took Me & the Wife a while to get used to being addressed by Mr. and Mrs. by everyone....adults , kids, co workers...and not just once or twice....all the time! And once you are friends with someone here..they address you as Mr. Tomcat (first name) :) very respectful.

And even the thuggiust kid will give you this Mr./Mrs. respect if they know your name 90% of the time.

It is a different culture in the Low Country, and it has been pleasant to say the least.

I'll chime in here as an E-Series owner. First, it has been boringly reliable with everything I have loaded for it, HP, hard cast, FMJ, various profiles. It will feed empties. Accuracy is on par with other factory offerings, being limited by the stock trigger among other things. I paid under $760 out the door back in March. That's the good.

Some of the (personal) bad: the frontstrap isn't fully profiled. Checkering is nice but was not fully cut to the radius of the grip leaving a squarish edge. Not problematic or uncomfortable but noticeable. The thumb safety is a tad on the narrow side and was slightly bent causing contact to the plunger tube. The factory trigger was noticably heavy with a fair amount of creep. Factory springs were both heavy and sub-standard in quality. After a professional evaluation the following was found: SS pin was undersized and not consistent in diameter leaving little to no lower lug engagement. Barrel bushing fit was loose (I could turn it by hand easily).

Even with a new bushing, slide stop, thumb safety and ignition set it will come in at close to the $1,000 mark which will make it a reasonably low priced, reliable and accurate shooter. I'm not disappointed in my choice but do agree that a nice Colt, Dan Wesson or Springfield could have been had for even money and likely "more" gun. I will add my Colt XSE is also receiving a new bushing (factory was just snug), thumb safety (replacing factory ambi), slide stop (for personal preference) and beavertail (factory was poorly fitted). The smith involved is a 1911 specialist with more than 25 years experience including working for several big names in the 1911 world.

A quick pic to make up for my lengthy post.

Sexy won't kill you.....an ugly Glock will! Sexy is for women, not guns. You seem to have too much time on your hands fondling your 1911 Military Junk! Get a life!

Under $1k is hands down the Springfield Armory Loaded Stainless or perhaps the Trophy Match (if Bo-Mar adjustable sights do it for you).

Yes, Colt's are still available in Series 70 configuration, and they are great 1911's. Nothing wrong with the Series 80 though.
