Saying they got something in that I might be interested in. Oh yeah, a stainless Service Six in .357 magnum. Put it in lay away jail until next month. Pristine. No turn ring or holster wear. Original grips and one set of Pachmayr grips, original case, paperwork and Ruger soft case. I feel at $500, that's tax included, I did all right.

You did alright for sure, the short barrels usually bring a premium, plus the extras that came with it. Looks like a nice one!

For $500 OTD, I would do that deal all day long! Congrats on the most excellent acquisition and for having such an accommodating and intuitive LGS!

2 3/4" Stainless Security Six .357s are really a great heavy duty belt gun IMHO and have one since the 80s and it still buffs out like new when my 46 YO son scratches it up on forays. Great score ! I wonder why Ruger doesn't bring them back ? Much better IMHO than a GP100 ! Ect. Ect.

Been doing business with them for over twenty years and have gotten some smokin' deals over the years. They know what I like and also know I'm a no BS customer. Any time they get something that I might like I get the call.

Didn't know what I was going to see when I walked in but was pleasantly surprised at what I did see. All the Service Six's I've seen over the years, and it hasn't been that many, have been in .38. SP. All were blue steel.

I'll probably make it my EDC and have to decide about the grips. Keep original which I really like or go with the Packmayr which would probably be more practical. I'll shoot with both and then decide.

That's a great relationship to have with your local gun shop! Use to have a buddy of mine that I went to school with working behind the counter at a local gun shop. He was always on the lookout for vintage S&Ws for himself and if he didn't need some particular gun for his collection, he would set it to the side til I had a chance to look at it.

I remember reading an interview with Bill Ruger. He said they lost money on every Six Series revolver they made but we're willing to do so to get a bigger chunk of the police revolver market from Smith and Wesson. They came up with the GP100 design during that time.

I wish I had a LGS that called me whenever something like that dropped in for sale... I have to haunt mine like a wraith to find goodies in the gun counter like that one!

Stay safe.

There used to be a gun shop just a couple of miles from me that would call and tell me what they had gotten in and was I interested and coming over? I was always interested and bought nearly everything they called me about. They new I liked 32 caliber revolvers.

One day they called and said they had a S&W model 431PD barely used with the box and paperwork. They wanted a fluffy $329+ tax. I thought it was high at the time but really wanted one of those so I bought it. It has been a nightstand gun ever since for I guess the 15 years or longer. Now its worth more than $500 so in the end it was a good buy.

Cherish a gunshop that thinks that much of you and your business. They are more rare than the gun you just bought. Nice gun by the way.
