As a teen, one of my friends used to shoot (and blow stuff up) with his dad when his dad was an EOD specialist. He really hasn't shot anything except for a .22 since then. He tried a friend's AK-47 and my AR-15 the other week, but he and his son are getting more interested in the shooting sports with our Boy Scout Troop and Venture Crew. He's going to take an NRA Range Safety Officer course next month. Part of it is learning about muzzleloaders.
He overheard me talking with our sons' rifle coaches about muzzleloaders and wanted to shoot my .54 Mississippi rifle yesterday. He loaded and fired it twice and he's already checking the prices on a traditional style muzzleloader.
Civil War replicas are CMP legal for competition, hopefully, our CMP team will try them and get some young folks into the sport, they had a time shooting my '42 rifle musket after the NRA Basic Rifle class.
