Wow I just spent alot of time reading this entire thread, and what a story. Nugilum I'm sorry for anyone who is stolen from. I can't stand a thief. I was a victim of identity theft over the net. Some guy in South America hit my account up for 700+ dollars. It makes you feel so violated to be stolen from.
I'm going to have to believe that the OP in NOT trolling. Why would you put something this wild on a forum and open yourself up to be ridiculed and to be called a bull crapper if it were not true?

RE: Image GPS data...

Can't one simply edit the EXIF file and delete it?

Sure, but you have to know the EXIF is in the image you upload and remember to remove it before uploading, not everyone is aware the EXIF info is there!

I just wanted to point out this new feature in a lot of cameras, especially cell phone cameras! Up to this, other than than the date and time, the EXIF information is just a bunch of mostly useless techno mumbo jumbo about the camera and its settings, but this "geo-tagging" could have serious misuse potential.

This is bizarre: My buddy was in Anniston a while ago, and he brought back a real nice stock. He sold it to me for $50. I jumped on it!

That is one bizarre thing to happen. But, bizarre stuff happens, and this is coming from someone who has been struck by lightning, had a meteorite land twenty feet away, and has been dealt a royal straight flush (in spades, BTW). I gave up asking what are the chances years ago.

WOW, that's quite an interesting story.
Sorry it happened to ya, hope someone hops out and yells "JUST KIDDING!" and gives you the stock back, at least they didn't take the gun!

Also, posting in an epic thread!

I too have been dealt a Royal Flush in spades, it was freakin awesome. I cashed out after, good night at the table.

I wish I lived closer, I'd do you a deal on the beater wood--but, I have a never-issued M15 grenade launching sight, too, to go with my M7A3 launcher. It has always been my goal to find a decent beater action and rig up a grenadier's M1. Not for launching grenades--even the replicas are too dear to be lobbing about, but, just for the look of it.

Ah, the dreams one has when one has money and a future.

No changes as yet. CMP has not gotten back to me yet, and I've been a bit busy in Texas to get back in touch with them. I'll be going back through there again next Saturday. I'll get an update from them then.

I've given up on the missing stock and I'm working on (on the side at nights) another stock. It appears to be a late Winchester. This works out nicely since I have a Win-13 with a Boyd stock. I'll play the switcheroo game and make my Winny a little more correct, and get my "beater" back.

I suspect that if this was a prank, they'll take it to the grave. My friends (DFW and Augusta) know I'm :cuss: and would probably be apprehensive to return it now...

I totally sympathize with you, but if this is true, it has to be the most epically unbelievable gun story ever!
The wood on my Garand has had a big ugly scratch on it for several years now, and I just brought it in to a buddy to sand and refinish all the wood. I don't have a vice and the tools I had on hand would not get that gas cylinder screw off for anything, so I made arrangements for someone else to take the wood off for him. Not being an expert Garand guy, does that gas cylinder screw come off so easily for all of you without a vice? That would severely hamper an attempt at furniture removal.
Again, not calling you a liar, but wow, what an incredibly unlikely set of circumstances to all come together for this to be an actual criminal Garand Furniture swapping scam.

Shawn, You unnscrew the gas screw and gas lock. Then tap off the gas cylinder, you can place a block of wood on the bayo lug and tap it off with a hammer

Had to be CMP then. Who else would be prepared to go just in case this scenario arose? And if you're already at the CMP, wouldn't it be worth it to at least ask one of the guys working there if they'd be willing to purchase the original stock or maybe trade it for a newer one? Either the OP is completely off his rocker, or whoever did the exchange is. Although he did get away with it...

I'm a desperate Garand collector. You left your nice Garand in your car in the parking lot and here I come ready to exchange it for an old original one. If your gun had been insured with Allstate, you would have a new stock for your gun already. Be prepared for Mayhem like me.

I seriously doubt that any exchange occurred at CMP. It would have to be someone very familiar with the M1 that had tools at the ready and a GI stock to swap. They would also have to know that you had an M1 in your vehicle, since most visitors LEAVE with an M1, rather than ARRIVE with an M1. But the biggest hitch would be to find someone fitting that description that was willing to give up his freedom, or even his life (if caught in the act) for what probably amounts to a loss as far as value is concerned.

I think the OP is either very mistaken, or someone close to him has pulled off a remarkable hoax. I'm going with the former rather than the latter.
