Hello. Just some foundational info. I have a Fireproof safe in a room that was added on a few years ago. It is Part of the house, but is NOT Heated or Air Conditioned. We live in the Upstate of South Carolina and it is pretty cold in the Winter and Pretty Hot and Humid in the Summer (Right Now). The safe has been in this room for about 5 years now and all I have ever used was a desicant pack to prevent rust. When the dot turned pink, I would cook the pack and reuse it over and over. I also really keep my guns clean and oiled well also.

Out of fear from rust from all of the humidity, I bought a Browning Heater Room and installed it a little while ago. Nothing to it....right! That baby is Pretty Hot. How Hot is too Hot? Do I still need the desicant packs? Any Info or advice you could give me would be appreciated. I look forward to hearing your input.

Thanks again,
Scott

If it's like the more common Golden Rods, you can touch it, but it will be just about too hot to grab for very long. I wouldn't bother with the dessicant crystals, the rod will do the job. I tried some crystals once, but now I just use 3 Golden Rods in various locations. They need to be horizontal and as low as possible in the safe and there needs to be some ventilation - the crack around the door will do. The incoming air is warmed and rises and keeps condensation from forming on the guns.
