Got my Duty Black Dan Wesson 1911 Valor VBOB today - REALLY awesome gun.

I passed up an Ed Brown Kobra Karry and an Ed Brown Executive Carry to get the VBOB I really love the stainless Dan Wesson Valor I have already. I think it's my fav 1911 I have ever owned.

The thinner grips are awesome, and I found the checkering on the Valor to be a little more aggressive than the Brown checkering. And, the sights are just like I want them - nothing to change. After getting used to the Straight 8 sights on my other Valor, I prefer them to standard 3 dot sights...

I wanted something black, since both of my 1911s are stainless - and most of the ones I have prev owned have been stainless or hard chromed. This is my very first commander sized 1911 too.

My camera is broken - so, I borrowed one. Couldn't get as good of a shot as I could with my old camera - but this was the best I could do. Still has some oil on it - haven't cleaned it yet...

And, my 1st Dan Wesson I have :)

And, my mom's camera sucks. Flash is not bright enough. Best I could do:

Congrats on your V-Bob, beautifil pistola!...
How would you compare your full-size Valor to your EB Special Forces?

I put the deposit down on the Ed Brown,a nd then stumbled upon the fullsize Valor later that day. I played with it and fell in love. Went home to decide what to sell, and I went back for the Valor 30 min later....

I have owned 11 different 1911s now. The fullsize Valor is hand down my favorite 1911 I have owned. And, I've previously had an Ed Brown Special Forces. I sold it a few years back, and decided to get another. Had I seen the fullsize Valor the day prior, I probably would not have bought the Brown.

I've also owned a Springfield Custom shop 1911 before - I really like that fullsize Valor.

Ok, just got back from the range and have two of the three 1911s cleaned. Man, stainless models take much longer to clean :p

I had been planning to take the fullsize Valor to the range because I wanted to shoot some JHP thru the gun. I bought some 230gr Hydrashoks. They shot great. I bought some more on the way home - gun will now stay loaded. Debating on whether or not it will be my nightstand gun... It's basically 8 rounds vs 15 rounds of a Beretta 92... Still debating....

The Brown - I had the shakes a bit in my hand the last time I took the Brown out for it's first spin at the range. So, I wanted to shoot it some more today. Put 30 rounds thru it - It shot fantastic. Dead center several times at 15 yards. Pretty good for a guy without the steadiest hands (I get slight tremors in my left hand, and they vary day to day).

Now for the new VBOB. Gun functioned 100%. Had no issues with it. Recoil of it didn't seem to be as much as what my memory told me a Springfield Champion felt like when I shot it about 10 years ago... So, recoil was not bad.

The front sight is a little shorter on the VBOB than it is on the fullsize Valor. Not sure if that is the same for all Commander size 1911s. Anyway, the slightly shorter sight made it a little harder to shoot. I either shot a tiny bit low or high if I didn't take my time aligning the sights. So, in that respect, it's a little slower for me than the govt sized Valor.

It did pretty well with double taps - and when I shot double taps 1 handed, that follow up shot was right next to the first shot. Very impressive.

I do like all three of these 1911s. My fullsize Valor is still my favorite one I've ever owned. This VBOB puts me at eleven 1911s I have previously owned... Working my way up in prices/models over the years. Despite prev having a Brown and a Springfield Custom Shop gun - that stainless Valor is a hell of a lot of money for the gun. :)

Ok, with my camera broken - and a family member's camera not working too well. I did an Ipad photo special. Best I could do :p

How come you didn't by a Kimber Custom Shop model?

Are you really serious?

Maybe because Kimber doesn't really have a "custom shop," despite what they print on the side of the slide.

Anyway - I have owned a Kimber before. Dan Wesson is much nicer IMHO...

According to Kimber they do and they also say that they make the world's best 1911 style pistols. Are you saying that Kimber conducts false advertising?

If he doesn't say it, I will.

Very nice guns, Shipwreck. I've been back and forth over a VBob the last couple of weeks, don't need one as I already have a very nice Novak built Colt Commander but, damn, those VBobs are sweet! Glad you're liking yours.

Of course that is true, "according to Kimber."

I honestly don't want to get into this. You are obviously a Kimber fan. I am not. I have owned one previously and have been very disappointed.

Dan Wesson will allow you to ship one of their guns back and do many different types of mods. To me, there is no comparison between a Kimber and a Dan Wesson. I have seen the high end Kimbers and they seem nice. I just am not going to spend that kind of money on a Kimber. Just my opinion.

Have their CBOB and it's been a flawless, dead-accurate shoot!!!
DW makes some great 1911s... period!!
BTW Shipwreck, Nice family of DWs!

The Kimber corporation has a proven record as a reputable company that manufactures excellent firearms. As such, it is a pretty fair bet, that they would not use misleading monikers just to sell a few more guns. The term custom shop is used by kimber on many of their weapons that have refinements on them like improved ejection ports, carry melt treatments, aircraft grade aluminum alloy frames, front strap and under the trigger guard checkering, match grade bull barrels, tritium night sights, premium aluminum match grade triggers, and high quality rosewood double diamond hand grips.

So basically... All the stuff that's standard on a DW but still not up to par with DW standards?

Did I get that right?

How would I contact the Kimber Custom Shop to have some custom modifications made to my Kimber Custom II?

http://www.kimberamerica.com

For instance, if I wanted to contact Springfield Armory's Custom Shop I could go here…

http://www.springfield-armory.com/custom/

or if I wanted some custom work done by Colt, I could go here…

http://www.colt.com/Catalog/CustomFirearms.aspx

Kimber does not have a Custom Shop.

Sorry, Shipwreck, I couldn't keep out of the mud.

Nice Dan Wesson's, by the way. I see you are straying back into the 1911 world. Are the Beretta's still getting some love? I've noticed quite a bit of traffic about new Beretta models coming. I see Beretta USA is now listing 92G models in the inventory.

As stated above, all that is standard by almost any other 1911 company. That does not make it a "custom shop" where you send the gun in and have any assortment of things added. Pretty much all the Kimbers are built the same.. Just cosmetics are different. They are all about the same gun accuracy wise.

Anyway, as stated above, if you like Kimber, fine. Remember, YOU asked ME, and now you do not like my answer.. And yes, you are a troll... Not wasting anymore time on that topic...

Nice pistols, I still need to get my first Dan Wesson.

And my first Ed Brown....

Darn, I must be doing it wrong, not a single one of mine has "custom shop" stamped on it...

My Black Duty Coat DW Valor is one of the early ones with the Champion adjustable night sights, the newer ones have the Heinie Ledge Straight 8 sights. Mine also has the extended safety that matches the slide release, I haven't seen this extended safety on any other DW Valor. This is my favorite pistol, a great range gun!
