After 15 months and over $1300 invested overall I have a Ruger GP100 3" w/adj sights in 41 Special (6 rounds). Yesterday I tested the load of 7.4 gr Power Pistol and 200 gr LRNFP and loaded up more for a full outing today.

Pictured is the new arrival from Clements Custom with ammo loaded in Starline's new cartridge offering. I will also do some XTP's for SD, since this is definitely a carry piece.

Hay that is one very good looking gun. I have a S&W 41 Mag and it is a very accurate hand gun. I hope you meany good shooting days

I got a second 41 mag set by RCBS but needed to go to a Hornady seat/crimp design. For now I actually only use the RCBS expander and could eliminate that too, because I am loading new brass that is better off not sized, and the Lee turret press has its own powder-through expander. But that's a reloading forum topic, isn't it?

Very nice customized GP100. Sort of reminds me of a S&W Model 58 I use to have.

I thought about it over night, and I'm kind of surprised they can't at least do a .41 magnum in it. What is the weak link that holds it to .41 Special? Seems odd given that a L-frame is less than .005" bigger in cylinder diameter, and the 69 is a five-shot .44 magnum.

Conjecture on my part......

The 69 is a 5 shot. This is a six shot based on the number of rounds in picture one. I'd guess the chambers were just reamed out so the walls are likely thin and negate the possibility of a a magnum. Six shots would also place the cylinder stop notches over the chambers, which is the weakest point on a cylinder, though as you can see, on the GP 100, they are slightly offset.

Also, the 69 uses a two piece barrel, and I believe it allows the 69 to have a heavier than normal forcing cone. The GP100 doesn't use this design. If you tried to put 41 mags through what would be a small for caliber forcing cone, due to the frame size of a GP, I suspect the cone would eventually crack. Old Smith L frames had this issue with light and fast 357 magnums, as well as premature forcing cone erosion.

These comments are assumptions. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

I have two Bowen conversions of an OMBH to 41 Special, one with Bisley frame etc. Hornaday New Dimension 41 Mag dies have enough adjustment in expander and seater to crimp the 41 Special. John Taffin has an article on loads for it. I like mine second only to my 44 Specials.
