Well, I got it back in today after having sent it off to Kahr for work. They changed the front site and barrel. It now shoots dead center but is shooting high at the following ranges:

1.5" high @ 7 yds.
2.5 " high @ 10 yds.
3.5 " high @ 15 yds.
2.5 " high @ 20 yds.

I'm not too concerned with that but am used to the POI being the same as POA at some point in distance. I don't know? What bothers me the most is that the interior of my barrel appears to have what appears to be "scuff" marks rather than being highly polished like my other two Kahrs. I can't tell if it is affecting the performance of my gun but I don't like the idea of the barrel showing this "appearance" of wear when it is brand new. At a minimum, should I decide to sell it, someone might think its been shot a lot more than it is. At worst, it might affect reliability, or the barrell might wear out much sooner, or it won't shoot as well as it is designed. At any rate, I am bothered by the fact that they would let this go out of the factory the second time around without catching a flaw of this sort?

Has anyone else experienced the same problem with the inside of the barrel? I seem to remember someone here has seen this but can't be sure?

Thanks,

Greg

It sounds like your pistol is going to be dead on for elevation around 25 yards or so.

What do you mean by "scuff marks?"

What do you mean by "scuff marks?"

There are irregularities inside the barrel that appear to look as if I'd fired bullets with sand in the barrel, hence, leaving what appear to be abrasions of some sort. They don't appear to be outright abrasions but the barrel does not have the highly polished interior I see in my other two Kahrs (PM9 and P9). I seem to remember someone here or at Glock Talk having a similar experience but just can't find it using the search feature at this time.

I've got to send the barrel of my PM9 in due to the barrel recall and was thinking I could send them both in? I don't know? I'm kind of torn as to whether have it go back to Kahr again or to just leave well enough alone?

Correction...

I need to correct what I said earlier...

The irregularities don't appear to run the length of the barrel but, instead, run somewhat perpendicular to the rifling turns. I just got home and compared the K9 barrel (the one replaced) with my PM9 barrel and there is definitely a difference. In stark contrast to the K9 replacement barrel, the interior of the PM9 barrel is beautifully smooth and polished. Not a blemish anywhere.

Hope that helps.

Spoke with Dottie Herold today...

Dottie is the Operations Manager at Kahr. She responded to my email and said that they were shipping me another barrel today and just to kindly send the other back in when it arrives. I called her to thank her for the prompt response. She was very nice. That's great customer service.

One thing to look into is how well your carry ammo works. I've had big differences in POA/POI and group size with different bullets. Note - that's bullets, not loads. I see very little difference in +P or even brands - it's all (IMHO) about the bullet.

Example - one 9mm I own dislikes WWB but loves 124 grain Gold Dots, Speer loads or Georgia Arms.

The GA Arms 124 Gold Dots are my load of choice in 9mm, so how it functions is much more important to me than what WWB shows. :)

Finally got my tack-driver K9!!!

Well...2 barrels and one front sight later I've finally got my K9 tack-driver. I got the 2nd replacement barrel in today and couldn't wait to test it out. I made an initial inspection of it when I took it out of the packaging and it looked good. No flaws that I could detect. But proof is in the pudding they say.

I stepped into the backyard range and began with a magazine at 7 yds. and it hit POA (three holes overlapping each other). Hmmm....looking good. I then backed it out to 10yds (Kahr's quality test distance) and hit POA. Hmmm....better. I backed it out to 15, 20, and then 25 yds. and couldn't believe it! This thing will now shoot 2" groups at 25 yards without a rest! This was with WWB ammo. I was amazed! This thing is now DEAD ON at 25yds. I can't wait to get it on a rest and see what it will do under more tightly controlled conditions.

After about 30 rounds I began to develop total confidence in being able to hit what I wanted. The trigger did not present a problem for me in any way.

Well, I guess I can take it to my Tactical II class at RangeMaster (Memphis) in September. I feel confident enough in it to try it. After about 1000 rounds (the amount I expect to have shot by class start time) I should be ready to pass the class. Wish me luck!

Glad that you're now happy ! And I'm glad that Kahr is running their service properly.
