Took a little longer than the thirty days mandated by law, but it is here.:D Been carrying around town for the past two days. I am surprisingly comfortable with it. I thought I would be more nervous. Anyway, thought I'd share. I am headed out now for the obligatory Wally World Walk.

Just don't get all hyped up about it, Big responsibility. If you have a indoor range is if they have any kind competitive shooting at night. This is a good way to tune your skills and even if the slowest there it is fun. You might nees a mid to large size gun and a holster but fun and good practice to think quickly while moveing...

Why is everyone O.K. with this? I have read about the state taking longer then the law allows recently to issue permits/licenses and nobody speaks up about it. Where are all the self righteous, obedient “I obey any rule, regulation or law no matter what!” people?

God forbid any one disobey their beloved laws about “No carry zones.” or stores/companies rules against weapons! Any one that carries there “Should not be allowed to own guns.” “Are giving the Anti’s ammunition!” Etc. But when the government breaks the law that’s fine! “Hey, Their backed up!” “It happens!” “It’s no big deal.” “At least I got it.” Etc. Do you think the state would cut you a break if you couldn’t comply with the law because you were to busy?

Good point Reaper, but what should I do? Call the local State Police Barracks and request that they drive to the state capital and serve the Chief of the State police a summons?

I called the state police headquarters at the twenty five day mark to make sure that everything was in order. They Said that my application had entered the system on May 15. Funny thing is that I sent it in Mid April, and the $35 check that accompanied it was cashed on April 25. I guess it sat in a pile before anyone started processing it. Once they actually got it going, they did in fact issue within the thirty days.

hardluk- no hype here, just glad to have it.

Hahah, when they took longer than they should have to issue my permit, I called literally every day.

Didn't help at all, but it made me feel better.

Yo Mama

I bought a Taurus 24/7 in .45. 4 inch barrel. That's my intended carry weapon, but since I can't find ammo to feed it, i am carrying my PT92 in 9mm. Its a bit bigger, and a lot heavier, but I have a little stockpile of food for it.

Reaper, CCW has exploded since the election. I know a guy that teaches the class. He used to have about 10-15 people in the class every other Saturday, now its 15-20 every weekend, with the occasional class during the week.

When I did my CHP application, I was there about an hour or so, and I was the only one. When I went to do my renewal paperwork, which took about half the time (and half of that was waiting), about four people came in to pick theirs up, and I think two more applicants came in.

They're just having trouble keeping up with the workload. They aint doing it on purpose.

I DO NOT care what their excuse is! The state needs to either A: Transfer more personnel to what ever department deals with CCW or B: (My preferred choice.) do away with the requirement to have a permit/license to carry a concealed weapon. If you were caught speeding do you think the state would cut you a break if you told them “I wasn’t speeding on purpose, I am just really busy and need to get where I am going.” or would they give you the Tyrants motto; “The law is the LAW!”?

When I went for my permit, I asked my dealer what to expect. He said in his county, it would take all of 30 mins.. In my county, one over, it would take 45 days. 45 days is the allowable max. for getting issued a permit here in Pa. He said that the only check was the usual NICS check and that there was no aditional "SPECIAL" state check. So I went for the permit. Got my pictue taken and the lady behind the counter called it in. She got a number(approval) and wrote it on the form. Then she proceeded to lie to me and said that the next check was the infamous SPECIAL one. Needless to say I got my permit, in 45 days. The one good thing is that the sherrif croaked and we are trying to get a good ole boy in the position. Wish us luck.
P.S Why didn't I complain. Guess I was afeared it would have gotten lost or I wouldn't get it altogether. Not a great reason, but a real one.:(
PPS. This is the area of the famous Dickson City Open Carry debacle! The politicians are the biggest bunch of crooked bas***** I've ever seen. And I was raised in NJ
kid

That's a poor analogy. Ammo and gun manufactures could have kept up with demand with more machines and personnel, but they didnt. Simply put, its not a very smart business move to spend a bunch of money for a temporary spike. Which is what it was. I dont know if you've noticed, but I've seen a lot less "out of stock/backorder" and fewer empty shelves lately.

Its like my boss telling us that we can go back to five eight hour shifts a week, if we can do 150% of production. Instead, we're working 5 tens and an eight.

One more thing, in my county they don't issue speeding tickets unless you're going 10mph over. Traffic court was too congested, and again, they couldn't keep up with the workload. So yeah, I do catch a break on speeding, because they don't want to deal with it.

I aint saying its right, its just the way it is.

i don't think people were saying they were okay with it. in TX, the DPS has 60 days by law to process your application. mine took over 5 months. they probably would consider it four months because they waited a month to even acknowledge the application, which pissed me off more than the rest of it, actually. it's like they decided that they can get the number of "days" down by letting them pile up in the mail room before opening them. believe me, lots of folks in TX are not "okay" with this. there was an attempt this session to remove authority for this from the DPS, but it narrowly failed. if there is no improvement, i would imagine there will be another such attempt in 2011.

I talked to a indepedent ammo company about adding equipment and was told that if all suppies were in stock it would take them a year to get geared up and with new employes then they would need years of around the clock production to pay for it. Thats 1 year down the road just to start. If demand finally slowed down then price would go up again because they would have to pay for that equipment and building space. Also lay off personnel. Go to your gun range and see if the range is easier to get on to shoot,or if ccw classes are getting smaller and find your smaller gun shops and see if cc type guns are setting on the shelfs. Even reloading suppies are around here again. Only at wally world and the sporting goods stores is ammo still low, even the gun range said that ammo for the range is fine. In my little back road town ammo is abundant. Not cheap but plenty to choice from. Next will be the big box store haveing ammo again then prices will come down some. It's like gas ,it will never be like it was . Permits in my county take 2 weeks ,in the big markets it can take 2 months. Whinners could have got'n the permits months or years before, right. Noooo, lets wait for a panic...

What does this have to do with the state refusing to issue permits/licenses within the time frame mandated by law?

I appreciate Reaper's insistence here, but I personally think it's energy that's misplaced. If the posted speed limit is 55 and you are driving 56, or 59, or 62, or even 64, it's unlikely that the highway patrol will pull you over ... even though you are clearly in violation of the law and damn well ought to be both ticketed and fined, period, end of story. But I know that I appreciate the courtesy when I'm driving slightly over the posted speed limit, and I'll wager that Reaper and everybody else here would appreciate it as well when the highway patrol car eases on down the road without the flashing red lights.

Oregon's law mandates that the permit be approved or denied within 45 days. I'm not going to get exicted if it takes 46 days, or even 54 -- given the incredible numbers of applications these days -- so long as it is handled in a reasonable amount of time. But that's just me.

Well I guess I am not hyped up about how long it takes because I count my blessings and I know why it takes so long.

We have it good in Indiana with regard to concealed carry. It does take a long time in Marion county (Indianapolis) because there are so many good citizens that apply and they are chronically understaffed.

We could kick up a fuss but they aren't going to hire anybody extra...no budget. I figure since this state and my county is actually sincere about providing permits on our statewide Shall Issue basis, and create no hurdles other than the wait, then I'll pick another battle.

On the RKBA front here in Indiana, there aren't many battle to fight other than to remain vigilant. Our governor, Mitch Daniels is NRA A+ rated. Our local prosecutor is pretty decent when it comes to support self defense etc.

Well congratulations. Here in WA state, I received my permit in a week.

I usually carry .38 snubbie. I have been looking deeply and desperately for a good holster. I bought a simple $9 Unkle Mike's IWB holster that seems OK but want something better and more low lying since the cylinder adds an inch or two to the "wasitline".
