With carry permits going into the digital age and applications being done online and fingerprinting being taken digitally now how long is it taking to get your permit approved?

For me here in Tennessee, I applied online on January 23rd, I took my class on February 1st and finally got around to going to the DMV on February the 18th to pay for the permit and got my finger prints did digitally the same day. I just checked my application status a few minutes ago and it said my permit was approved and I would have it in the mail with in next 10 days.

My Brother did everything the same day as I did except he paid his on Feb 3rd and was fingerprinted the same day and his is yet to be approved. His might be taking longer do to he has lived in more places that I have in the last 5 years.

So how long did your permit take from fingerprinting to getting approved and in what state?

I am in PA and in my county (Erie) it is all done on paper. You go to the court house, fill out 1 piece of paper, give them $20 or $30 I can't remember which, then they take your picture and tell you if approved it will show up in your mailbox. Mine came in 5 days.

When I first got my CCW, I took the class on Saturday and put everything in the mail that night. Received my permit in the mail on Wednesday…. With my name misspelled. Called them and got a replacement with my name correctly spelled on Friday. But then when I renewed my CCW it took six weeks. Go figure.

I'm in WA. We have to go down to our local law enforcement headquarters and get fingerprinted there. It takes about 10 minutes if there's no line. There's no class needed or anything. It took me 15 days to get my permit in the mail.

Wish ours was that cheap. Cost me $65 for the class plus ammo, luckily I used reloads that kept the cost down, and $115 for the permit.

pictures ??? fingerprint ??? DMV ??? not here , print from off line , fill out from, sent in from with copy of drivers Lic, and hunter safety card or mil discharge papers or NRA safety class card , with $35.00 and wait a week or two , good for 5 years , and I think that to much to go through ,

Similar here, it's now $20 for 5 years. Major difference in my County, once they call for a background check and you pass they hand you your permit. no reason to hold you up 5 days by mailing it, if you are safe 5 days from now you are safe today.

Usual time required to get your LTCF, 15 to 20 minutes. PA does not treat law abiding citizens like criminals and fingerprint you for no good reason.

I had the paperwork already filled out, went to the sheriffs office and walked out 20 minutes later with a CCW. No prints, background checked on the spot, photo taken on the spot and card printed on the spot. Cost $50 for 5 years, then $25 for 5 years after that.

If you were allowed to use reloads in TN, you were fortunate. When I got my permit in the 1990s, reloads were not permitted for the practical part of the course.

All hard copy application materials back then.

Takes about 2.5 hours of standing in line, having picture and prints taken, shuttling back and forth between probate office and police department, etc., to get the application in where I am. And then about 6 weeks for them to run the BGC. And then you have to go back down to probate to pick up the permit itself. Requirements are low (no classes, test, or proficiency demonstration), but they use the hassle factor as a barrier.

Personally, I'd rather they add a test but make it a same-day affair.

I'm in TN also, Williamson county, and they didn't permit reloads here, either. That was a few years ago, so maybe it's changed. I think the whole process took about one month. Renewal was done online and took less than a week. I agree that permits shouldn't be necessary, but they are. Unfortunately TN won't recognize any permits from a state that doesn't require a firearm safety course before issuing a permit. Most states are like that.

Really? I have never delved into the specifics, but according the CCW Reciprocity Map, TN honors my Indiana permit. I don't doubt you for a second, but one of the reasons I liked going to Florida was that my car trip allowed me to legally carry the whole way.

Getting my permit was pretty easy compared to how it was 4+ years ago. I applied online and set up a time to have my finger prints digitally scanned. I went to my local sheriff's department and paid I think $35. About a week later I had my permit in hand.

The biggest hassle for me was that I didn't know I could do it all online AND I had just moved to a different county. I spent more time running around than I probably needed to do.

Next time it should be even easier.

My initial CCW took 7-10 days to get after I turned in the paperwork. Now when it is renewal time I can walk in and be done in an hour with my renewal

Mine took a little longer than usual and I took steps to speed the process up.

You can send the fingerprint card and application in, but I hand delivered it hoping that would help.

Normal time in Arkansas is 30-60 days. Mine took nearly 6 months due to the increased volume of applicants. I'm glad though. More permit holders is a good thing in my book.

Mine was 101 days. I've never heard of anyone's taking over 120 days the state law allows in Arkansas. Was there a problem with the forms or prints?

Here in AL there's no fingerprinting or training requirements, and in my case at least they did not bother to contact my personal references. I downloaded the application from the county website, filled it out and dropped it off at the courthouse, and less than 2 weeks later I got the notice to come in and pay for my permit. (note that I didn't have to pay for anything until after I was approved)

No problems.
They said they were getting the amount of requests in one month that they usually got in a year so they were behind. It was definitely over 120 days.
I also know that during that time, there were 2 job openings on the state website for full time employment with the State Police, running CHL applications.

New York State -- three months, almost to the day. That was before things went crazy, and now it can take over a year, depending on what county you live in.

Interestingly enough, they're supposed to notify you in writing of the reason for the delay if it takes more than 90 days. I don't know of anybody who has ever gotten such a letter.

Got mine couple years ago. About 2 weeks to get finger printed, submit, pay local sheriff, etc.

Cost I believe was $125 for lifetime.

All the posts talking about fingerprints! Why are your states treating you like criminals? Why would a law abiding citizen be required to submit fingerprints like if you committed a crime? All that to be "allowed" to carry a gun?

Because they run your prints to assure thet you are who you claim to be.

Back in 2008, I sent my application in April and received the permit in September. This despite state law mandating a maximum of 90 days for the process. Didn't take them 5 months to cash the US Postal money order they required for payment, though.

Here in Texas, state law only applies to the residents, not the gummint. ;)

Well, lots of things require fingerprints. Want to be a lawyer in most states? Get fingerprinted. As others said, fingerprints are a lot harder to forge than an ID.
