How long did your carry permit take to complete?

I took the 8 hr. course, took paperwork to sheriff's office, had prints taken and mug shot. That was on Tue. , the next Wed. the permit was in my hand. $150.00 for whole pkg.

NO reloads allowed in our practical shooting, the sheriff's detective checked everyone !
In my case I sort my reloads by head stamp and it my reloads in an empty factory box. I label a zip lock bag with the load info and place the box of reload in that bag. Now the question is if I took that box out of the bag and carried it with me to the class and all the head stamps match what is on the box how the heck is someone going to tell if they are reloads or not with nice shiny brass and bullets?

Lessee . . . . A day for the class & range time, then I had to find time to run across town to get fingerprinted. After that, about 4 weeks from mailing the check to putting the CHCL in my wallet.

I applied for a Louisiana parish-only (county) license, since I don't travel outside the parish.
I supplied the application, a letter explaining a certain question's answer, a copy of my attending NRA CCW-certification training, and my DD214-short.
The Sheriff's Office called me four days later. I paid my fee, smiled pretty, and have my license.

In Mo (rules changed recently) requirements are 1 8HR class (100-150$). During the class one must shoot 60 rounds of 22rim from a revolver and 60 rounds from a semi-auto @ 7 yards. Groups must be anywhere inside a large "torso" paper-target. The instructor photo copies the target and fills out a "pass" form (the ammo 120/.22 is included in the class fee).

Then, you take the form to the local sheriff, pay 90$ (as of 2014- 2013 it was 60$) get finger-printed and wait to receive an approval letter sent to home address. THEN, you go back to the sheriff show the letter of approval and get the permit, which is as sturdy as a grocery store receipt and looks like a photocopy of a photocopy. 3$ to have it lamented. It took about 10 days for the approval letter. A few people (fake/unlicensed CCW class teachers) were busted in the past few years for accepting the $$$, forging the 7 yard proficiency paper targets, lying about the 8 hour (state law) requirement for CCW Ed.

I like the idea of people having to show to an instructor that they know how to properly load/chamber/unload/un chamber their EDC/CCW. This may be to the ire of others on this forum- but it seems sensical to myself. As for the fingerprinting, of course my beef with that would be the potential for being "registered" into a fed. Database. The CCW permit lasts 5 years btw.

I live in a very populated area (3+ million). With so many new CCWs being issued and hearing+observing some horror stories e.g. A new CCW carrier walking into a LGS asking a question while casually pulling out a loaded/chambered firearm, /w finger on the trigger, pointed at the LGS salesman asking a question about recoil reduction...I see an obvious safety issue.

It's seems much different in rural areas, where ppl grow up around firearms and are aware of fundamental firearm safety.

I just got my 3rd renewal from Iosco Co in Michigan. Since I was used to Wayne Co, anything less than 4 months was going to be a dream come true. My first app took 5 months, the first renewal took 6 months, even though they told me renewals didn't take as long as first apps. Last one was 4 months, so not much better. Up here, I applied knowing the gun board met on the 25th of the month, but I still turned in paperwork on ~the 7th. So, from the 7th to the 25th is wasted time. I got the OK to come pick it up, I think on the 27th and it was dated the 25th. I waited another few days before I picked it up. What is interesting, is that I could have turned in my paperwork on the 26th and had my permit a couple days later. Didn't really know that until now, but as it is, even with all the wasted time, it was less than a month.:D Just wanted to make sure I had it by April is all. Mine's good for 5 years, and is now a heavy plastic job like a driver's license.

It has been six weeks since I made application. No word yet. No hurry, but would like to get it before heading south this spring. I have never had one before, but need to become compliant if I go to Texas or some other controlled state.

Ive always wondered why they just didnt visibly mark the DL's/ID's of those who were prohibited from having firearms, and if youre a good citizen, you can do as you like, without a permit, as it should be.

Naaa, that would never work, they'd have to give up control of the masses, and give back your rights, the ones that they have turned into privileges, that they can revoke at any whim.
