Good news though, I wasnt hit.

After doing some laundry, I decided to go to McDonalds for a heart attack in a bag. On 191, one my way home, I heard what I thought was my Fairmont backfiring, While checking gauges (reflex) I noticed the "snap, crackle, pop" noises behind me. So I look in my rear-veiw, and my back glass is busted. So I hit second, foot to the floor, and I'm looking around for, well, anything. When I got home I called 911 to report it. 45 minutes later, the deputy shows up. I let him know he had the right place, and that I was armed.
"Got a permit?"
"Yep." (not that I need one at my own f***ing house)
"Aight"
"Its at 4:00, inside my waistband"
[no response]

"So, what happened?"

I tell him the story, he fills out the report.

[any enemies, blah blah blah]

His thoughts were the same as mine. ND. Poor muzzle control. Distant .38 or 9mm (judging by the size of the hole), definately not a rifle since there's not a hole in the front of my car somewhere. Dont think it was AM because there was only one shot fired. The investigation will probably go exactly nowhere.

We talked guns for a few minutes, I learned that the SD swapped to Safariland 6070 (or 6075) holsters (i think that what got the guns conversation going, I asked him about the holster), he mentioned his duty gun, I mentioned I dont like glocks.
"theyre great, I love mine. If you ever get one you'll-"
"had one, traded it."
[shock] "What do you carry?"
"4 inch Kimber. A series I."
"Thats a good choice" (I cant help but wonder if he just said that to aviod a glock/1911 debate)

We talked another minute or two, then he said he had to go do more cop stuff (well, he didnt phrase it like that), and left

Man, my life sucks. This has been the most "exitement" for me all week. Okay, all month. Sucks that my ride got shot though...

Anyone in the Asheville area got da hookup on glass? I need a back glass for an 83 Fairmont coupe...

[edited a few times because my brain isnt working right due to lack of slee, and my typing is suffering...]

ND? Multiple times? Hmm. Do you mean intentional discharge, negligent backstop check (NBC) by some distant shooter?

There was only one shot. The "snap, crackle, pop" was my back glass.

Ever shoot the window of a junk car with a BB gun in a mis-spent youth? I did. Sounded just like the cereal.

Did you find the bullet?Or maybe it just bounced off??I bet it got your attention though:D
Hopefully it wasn't someone actually trying to shoot you,or just anybody....scary:uhoh:

Glad you're OK, and we didn't hear about you in the news as another "Innocent Bystander" statistic. Will you insurance cover the glass? AZ forces insurance companies out here to carry full glass with zero deductable.

Dont think they will. Never really thought about it.

I've got another body that I guess I forgot about. I guess I'll try to get a boot in a buddie's --- to get it here, and try to have someone swap the glass over this weekend.

Haven't found the bullet. The car is a running project that wasnt driven on a regular basis until recently, so its a mess of tools, more tools, and parts I've collected (well, now I have broken glass back there too). When the trunk got full, it started going into the back seat. I'll have to clean it out when I get off work tomorrow.

Speaking of work, I have to leave in less than four hours, and I havent slept today...

Good night y'all.

What's the big deal ???

In my neck of the woods, it's LEGAL to shoot at Ford Fairmonts ... :)

Yea!!!! A warning shot is what you get for taking the last burger, you're lucky that I wasn't all that hungry :fire:

J/K :D

Man that sucks, I am sorry about your ride, Auto glass is not cheap. but if it were me, I would be on guard for a few days just in case, you just never know these days.

Take care brother

I drove an '83 Fairmont for a while
I bet mine's faster:neener: and a lot uglier too...

Spin, I'm guessing you're familiar with the area? It was in the straight just past where you turn into the parkway, right around the older gentleman who sells produce out of his Mazda truck. I was heading towards Hendersonville.

I went back and asked a few questions, everyone was quick to blame the range up the road. I cant imagine how the bullet would turn around and hit the back of my car though...

I think my other Fairmont body is gonna be here tomorrow, I'll see about getting the glass swapped over. A buddy reccomended triumph, so I guess I'll call them first.

And for yall's information, I happen to like my Farimonts.

Spin, I'm guessing you're familiar with the area?

You could say that. ;) Grew up in Buncombe, mainly the Southern part.

Interesting about the location, though. Nothing around, save for the river and trees. Weird that a stray round mangaged to hit the back window of a moving car. What are the odds? You were probably doing about 40-45 m.p.h. through there?

But, I'd tend to lean toward some doofus carelessly goofing off too. Just kind fits with the area... :)

At any rate, you might be wise to keep your head and the pedal down the next time through there. :D

Relax Zach ...

I'll come out of the closet to. I love Fairmonts. I have three with the inline six and one 5.0 litre with 3.08 gears. All in running condition. I can put a few folks to shame around town with the V8 'Mont' ... ;)

I've got another body that I guess I forgot about.

Uh... :uhoh: Yeah, I hate when that happens.

:p

It's good that you got through this one okay. That would have had me changing my undies.

Wes

I had a '79 fairmont station wagon we called the geekmobile. That eventually got shortened to the geeker. It had the 200 6-cylinder that a mechanic who had it before me opened up the jet on the carb. It ran great.

Wow, its been (barely) over a year since my car got shot...

I was doing a search for something else and found this thread, I figured I'd update it.

Big surprise: I still have no idea who shot my car, and I havent heard anything from the SD since the deputy left my house that day. Evidently it was an ND, since I haven't been shot at since, and no other acts of vengence have taken place. The back glass out of my parts car was swapped in the following weekend (or the weekend after that - I'm not sure, it has been a year).

OT: In an odd twist, I may have the back glass put back into my parts car. My 83 has a few more problems than I'm willing to fix, and the only problem with my 80 is that it doesn't have a title (and of course what I took off of it for the 83). So, if I can get the title for my 80 straightened out, I'm gonna finish swapping parts and crush what's left of the 83.

"It's a Glock 17."

"I don't like Glocks."

"Oh. How about that." :uhoh: "Say, look, I've got to go, umm, do some more cop stuff. Have a nice day, sir."

And for yall's information, I happen to like my Farimonts.

Well, at least Ford circles the problem :neener:

Glad you were not hurt.

'round here, we shoot at cars all the time. But most are lacking drivetrain parts and none have occupants.
