I went to the range to shoot my new pietta 1851 colt navy.
I had premade some cartridges for it so I didn't have to tote around powder and balls and .. etc.
They were simply a closed paper tube with ball followed by wad, followed by powder. (carefully measured, 25 gr. loads) It was really easy to just rip them open and dump the powder in, then squeeze out the ball and wad and shove it in the cylinder. I only screwed up once, and dropped the powder all over the grass!
I did try the ye oldie style of ripping the closed ends off with my teeth like we did in re-enacting, but the taste was too much for a simple thursday afternoon.
I managed to shoot an easy 15 yard group of a little under 3 inches. Which was surprising, considering the technology.
That little thing was awesome. I can't wait to get my pops out there to shoot it with me. I'll put up some pictures when I can.

There was no one else at the range, but I still found myself saying to no one at all, "this thing is awesome, it is so much fun".
The casual observer may have doubted my sanity.
I then took it home and cleaned it in all of its component parts in hot soapy water. (and some toothpaste for the bore.) Its oiled up and ready to go as soon as I make some new cartridges.
