Here's a post I put on another forum. I think this may be interest to THR members. Southern Ohio Gun has a nice deal on DAO Ruger GP100s...

Just got my Ruger GP100 from Southern Ohio Gun. Price was $249 (before handpick, shipping, and FFL transfer). I was really pleasantly surprised at how nice it is. Chambers looked like it hadn't been fired (although I'm sure it was) and the bore was mirror bright. However, what was advertised was a 4" barrel and as you can see, what I got was a 3". I'm not too upset about that (it gives me a reason to add to the stable down the road.)

Accessories that came with the gun are a nearly-new leather Safariland retention holster, speedloader, speedloader carrier, and 6-round bullet band.

Firing it at the range was something of a disappoinment of which I am still trying to sort out. At 10 yards, groups ran in the 1.5-2 inch range but were centered about 3 inches left of POA. To rule out human error, I fired my SP101 and then my Hi-Power and both shot to POA. I then dry-fired the GP100 and noticed I had a tiny flinch to the left on the trigger break. After a day of dryfire practice I went to the range a second day. I was still hitting left of POA but not as bad. I left the range perplexed. Later, while cleaning the gun I noticed the front sight is not staked firmly in place and has a fair amount of wobble. Hopefully it will be an easy fix and all will be well.

All in all I am happy with the purchase. This is about the 3rd purchase from SOG and I recommend them..

You'll probably have to re-stake the front, possibly with a shim of some sort to fix POA.

If you're going to do all that, you might consider ordering a tritium bead front and do it all at once :). I would.

Did your 3 inch GP100 have a stamp saying C.I.A.????? Thanks,Rich Ziemies,Omaha

Rich,
Stamped "C.A.I. GEORGIA VT." on the frame below the cylinder.

Ohio,
SOG's flyer advertises them as 4" but mine is a 3". You could try calling them to see if they have any 6"

I was just coming to THR to post that these are being sold by http://www.ammunitionstore.com/ for $299.

Sorely tempted (to get from SOG, now). I don't need another .357 revolver, but this is unique and kind of cool.

EDIT: I don't see them listed on SOG (have to go through my FFL anyway) - am I missing something?

NEW GP100

If anyone is looking for a *new* GP100 (what can I say...I splurged after months of looking for a used one in SE & Central Texas), contact Tomball Pawn in Tomball, TX (far NW Houston area). I paid just a tad over $400 for a blued -161; stainless was about $55 more. They beat the pants off the Big Boys like Bass Pro Shops & Gander Mountain. GM wanted over $525 for the -161 in stainless. They do gun transfers, I believe (I know that they accept orders for you, so I assume they ship, too).

Check them out at: www.tomballpawn.com

Not a lot of choice in target-grade ammo, but they carry the nasty stuff (as in good-nasty) like CorBon, etc.

If you are within driving distance to Houston, call them first. Save you a lot of trouble!!!
