edit: the safety is off because i'd just cleared it and forgot to put it back on safe...

erm

yeah.

Whats with putting AKs on safe? I never remember that they are on until I want to fire the gun or rack the bolt. I find it much easier to work the bolt than find and move the safety lever. If I am storing it or transporting it, I just make sure the chamber is empty and that is it.

IMO the best way to transport is with the hammer forward (unloaded of course) and the safety on as it covers up the hole behind the bolt carrier.

someday I'd like to convert a saiga.

I'd be nice to have an AK made in russia.

Id like to have a suppressed 9x39 AK, but I will settle for a real krink. Unfortunately that is currently impossible.

I am currently researching a legal suppressor conversion for my Bulgie 7.62x39. I'll post pics if I ever make progress. it would involve going to Valmet/Galil front sights and would hopefully look like this:

I'll play...here are my AK's, I'm planning some major mods soon for my VEPR K, my unconverted Saiga 7.62x39 and my Saiga 12 shotgun (rails, new folding stocks, flash surpressors, etc.)

Gribb - How is the RPK buttstock with the regular AK? I've never really messed with a RPK so I'd don't know much about its ergenomics.

MUCH better IMO. without the cheek lump, you can get your eyes right down by the sights very easily (as I guess a lot of us westerners have big heads- before I had trouble getting my face down low enough to the receiver to see through the sights). The RPK stock is about an inch shorter but because it cuts away at an angle, you barely notice.
