Practice at all ranges, 15 yards to 400 yards.
Find out where your shot hits,
and how long it takes to get there.

Both calibers have accounted for millions of deer. Both will do anything you could ever reasonably expect a deer rifle to do. The 06 has a bit more versatility in bullet weights, but if deer are the only thing you'll be shooting, this is largely irrelevant. One won't kill a deer any deader from further away than the other, as a matter of practicality. Both will kill deer at ranges far beyond the average shooter's skill level.whats better for flat, hard hitting and long trajectory? Did I just open a can of worms?
XL7 is Marlin, not Remington. Sure you're thinking of the right gun?
Who owns Marlin? Perhaps it's Remington? Do a search on this thing called the internet for issues with Marlington firearms, especially over the last year. That might answer some of your questions.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Remington 770. People who hate on it have not most likely owned one. Biggest complaint is that your stuck with the barrel because it cant be changed out. I submit to you, there is no way you can wear out that barrel in your lifetime. It is a reliable accurate rifle. Elitists are the ones telling you that the rifle is bad. It will get you into the hunting game and keep up with the best of them.
It does in this particular case. The Marlin factory has been closed and production farmed out to various Remington factories. Very few, if any, Marlin staff were kept. When a company acquires another, that does not necessarily mean the tooling and engineering staff changes up the production.
