what will the pundits say....when a crazed person attacks a group..not using a "gun"....when do the gasoline filled balloons start being tossed and lite on fire....will there a cry for the banning of water balloons and gasoline???

while we already have opinions already on other post here, if even people with mental problems should have been banned or not from owning guns, b/c "that may violate their 2A rights "

The problem is, who defines mental problems? Are we supposed to submit to random psychological screenings just to be sure we as gun owners are still sane? People can develop mental problems later on that had no symptoms earlier.

The presumption of innocence still matters in this country. So violating somones rights should not be a simple undertaking, mental problems or not.

"...blaming the easy availibility of guns..." So did Obama.
"...The problem is, who defines mental problems?..." Mental health can't be legislated either.

The man just lost his son. Give him a break.

I know you think his son (and apparently the the father, too) is a scum bag. but however you cut it, his son is dead, and parents aren't supposed to lose their children.

How do you think you would feel if your child died (in any manner)?

Try and have some basic human empathy, and if you can't do that, try and focus on the victims.

Parents almost always blame something else when their child dies. Drug dealers, bartenders, speed limits, guns, etc; nevermind when their kid does something truly terrible. Nobody wants to be known as the parent of a monster - heck, a lot of times they don't even want to admit it was their kid who did it.

You give him a break. The anti's and worse, the legislators, will use his comments as a rallying point.

He's not taking any responsibility for the the son's behavior and he's not putting any responsibility on his son. COWARDLY

sounds like daddy is in denial that he raised a murderous psychopath. 80,000,000 gun owners shot no one today.

^^ And..from what I read, this father had not even seen his "Son" in more than 2 years.

Maybe DAD should have been more available to his Son, instead of spouting off about the availability of firearms.

ow do you think you would feel if your child died (in any manner)?

Mine did. I didnt blame the doctors or nurses, but I did blame myself for not realizing something was wrong earlier.

This^. Let all armed people stand their ground and let the ones that are unarmed by choice take their chances!

Ian Mercer, during an interview outside his California home Saturday, told CNN that he didn't know his son had a single gun, let alone 13. He asked, "How on earth could he compile 13 guns? How could that happen?"

I have over 2 dozen guns. Not one has killed anybody yet. I know collectors with over a hundred firearms. No rampages with any of their collections yet.

This man is out of touch with reality. Or is pretending to be.

I cannot enter the man’s mind but I take his comments as a deflection from the grief of having lost a child.

Unfortunately, others like him have taken sanctuary with the gun control ardency as a means to vindicate their loss.
Under stress, people act differently. I reserve comments while the father is clearing his head.

Typical lib-**** double standard.

Blame the guns for killings but not Muslims for terrorism!

What irritates me more than the father's opinion is the decision by news organizations to disseminate his opinion. Who cares what he thinks about anything?

Its being reported that he and his father had an estranged relationship. They'd hardly spoken nor seen each other in the last 10 years. The shooter was also apparently a satanist. None of this makes the airwaves on CNN who is of coarse referring this this guy as a white right winger

I wish Chris Mintz had disregarded "the rules" and had a gun when he went to school that day. Im pretty sure lives couldve been saved by a responsible man with a gun. (but its impossible to prove a negative)
Good guys obey the law, and deranged lunatics do not.

"Gun free zones" are by definition, insane and retarded.
