It seems every time I go to my LGS, they have either/or but never both.

To preface my question: I want to convert either a XDm 4.5 or an XD 5" to a .460 Rowland (just to have).

I have average size hands and find my XDm 4.5 in .40S&W to be comfortable. However, I understand the XDm in .45 uses a larger frame.

So, how does the grip differ between the XDm and XD, both being chambered in .45acp?
Would one be more suitable for someone who doesn't have troll-sized hands?

If it helps any, I didn't care much for the G21 (2nd Gen) as I found it too large. I haven't yet handled the 3rd Gen SF or 4th Gen G20/21 Glocks

Thanks in advance!

For me the grip on the Springfield Armory XD45 and XDM45 feels the same.
They both use the same magazines.

I find the Glock 21 grip to be fat, the Glock 21SF from to be slightly fat, and the Glock 21Gen4 with no backstrap to be less fat.
With that in mind, the XD45/XDM45 grips also feels as bulky as the Glock 21SF grip.

My double-stack .45ACP pistol grip comparison...
Really Fat = Ceska Zbrojoka CZ-97B, FNH FNP-45, Glock 21Gen4 with large backstrap
Fat = Glock 21, Glock 21Gen4 with small backstrap, H&K USP-45
Slightly Fat = Glock 21SF, Para-Ordnance P-14.45, Springfield XD-45, Springfield XDM-45
Less Fat = Glock 21Gen4 with no backstrap
Not Fat = H&K HK-45, SIG P-227, S&W M&P-45

The grips feel different to me, I am just not sure how. I owned a XD45 full size and 4" barrel. It was an okay firearm but it didn't fit my hand well. The grip extended a good inch below my pinky finger, something I didn't realize would annoy me until owning it.

However, holding onto the XDm 3.8" barrel 45 with the extended magazine (same capacity as the XD45 4") the grip seemed more comfortable. I believe it had something to do with the changeable back straps and a slight more curve to the grip.

That information was quite helpful. Thanks Quiet and herrwalther! That's what I needed to know.

I could be wrong about this as I've never been a Springfield guy but I believe the XDm has interchangeable backstraps the XD does not.

Correct. The XDm and XD-S lines have removable back straps. The XD does not.
