For the last several years, I lugged around a 17 pound Remington 40x while hunting. No big deal. Lighter is always preferable, but many tactical rifles, as Zak noted, fall into the 15+ pound range. No worse than lugging an M249.
 
Carrying around a 20lb rifle isn't so bad, it's all your other support gear that you carry in addition to that rifle that makes it a PITA. 50lb pack with your field equipment, another 10lbs or more in ammunition, body armor, helmet, additional water.......it gets heavy REAL fast. Then of course you may have to traverse steep terrain and travel a good 10-20 miles a day.
 
thanks GUntech, I suspected that may be the case, but I just didn't know. I guess maybe the 7mm doesn't hold a candle to the Lapua.:eek:
