I do not know what to get. I need a new .22 rifle for plinking and squirrel hunting. I like a GSG-5 because they are just cool, and have hi-cap mags. And I like the Walther because I have a P22 and I like walther quality and accuracy. Both have good reviews, some say the GSG-5 has bad sights.

Do like I did... get a Ruger 10/22 and sink $400 dollars into it.

All joking aside, I'd probably go for the Walther. The name says a lot. At this time, I still see the GSG-5 as a novelty. And because of the import status, you will have to deal with 922(r).

I've been down that road with both Saiga's and straight AKs. While its not that difficult once you get the hang of it, I suspect that it would be a pain with the GSG-5. The AK has a LOT of aftermarket parts available from domestic manufacturers where the GSG-5 has none as of yet. I suspect that this will be the case for some time.

But really, it comes down to what kind of gun you want to end up with and what you want it to do.

Haha, I voted GSG-5 just because I think it would be hilarious to see someone hunting with one. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a Zumbo. I can just see a guy dressed up in a cliche SWAT outfit chasing a squirrel while unloading the mini MP5 at the hip.

cwmcgu2, I hear what your saying-- but I have to wonder if some think the same thing if they see my LR-308 on the way to a deer stand. I've never taken two shots to kill a deer.

On a serious note... anyone know if a GSG-5 would be accurate enough for squirrel or rabbit hunting? I honestly don't know.

If the GSG-5 is accurate enough and you can get a scope to hold zero reliably then more power to you if you want to hunt with it. I know I'm wanting to switch to an AR platform for deer season, its just more comfortable for me. Regardless I can't get the mental picture of a mall ninja dressed up SWAT style hunting squirrel with a GSG-5.

We really need someone with more talent than I have to Photoshop that.

I already have a 10/22, I just would like a new squirrel gun. Yeah I think I will get a G22. I mean if i were to get a GSG-5 I would get a scope, but there would be no use for the sights because they don't sound to good. But I just wanted to see what people think, and let the GSG people work the bugs out.

I also plan on getting a DPMS lr-308 next year. Because I would like a new deer gun.:D
