When the first sig 1911 came out I had read here and on the sig forum that it had some bugs that needed to be worked out and that there were a few changes that needed to be made to it.
I personally like to let a new firearm get into the market for a while before I purchase it . How does this gun compare to other 1911s?

I was wondering if it needs more work or if its good to go.

The first SIG's had defects that were totally inexcusable, like misaligned pin holes that allowed the hammer to lean to one side. Hopefully the latest ones are improved, but I honestly think SIG is never going to beat the rap. Everybody was expecting them to be the ones to finally put their famous quality control into a new 1911 design, yet I think they committed a major faux pas by letting outside sources handle much of the construction.

I've got one of the early ones (around nr. 700) and its been flawless.

I've not heard a complaint about any of them in the last year or so (after a flurry of complaints with the first few hundred).

The only complaint, now, is that IDPA (Bill Wilson is alive...) has changed weight limits and made them an ounce or two over the weight limit for Custom Defensive Pistol, making them compete in the Enhanced Service Pistol division.

Guess Wilson thought they were a worthy competitor...
