I have a blog post dedicated to preventable gun accidents. I simply take snippets of real life gun accidents and post them to my blog. I categorize them in groups according to what mistakes the gun owner made. (i.e. no holster, cheap holster, etc)

Gun accidents are rare but they still happen. As the saying goes…”those that don’t know history are condemned to repeat it”. So lets learn from the mistakes of others. It seems if all the following accidents seem to be avoidable if you either use a quality holster or follow the four rules.
The four rules of firearm safety are:
1. Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Be sure of your target. (and what is behind it)
Easily solvable w/ a quality holster:
Mexican Carry #11,2: Loss of Family Jewels
The man had just stuck the gun back into his waistband when it fired, shooting him in the left testicle. He cringed, causing the gun to fire again and strike him in the left calf.
Mexican Carry #2: No Wang Vo
His name was Chang Thong Vo, but he was better known on the streets of Chinatown as Tommy or “No Wang Vo” because four years ago he accidentally shot off part of his penis with the .45-calibre handgun he kept stuffed down the front of his baggy blue jeans.
No Holster, Gun in Backpack: Woman Paralyzed
Rubalcava’s gun discharged on Aug. 4 as he set the backpack on the floor during a class at California Beauty College in downtown Modesto. The bullet lodged in Michelle’s back and severed her spinal chord, paralyzing her from the waist down.
Cheap Holster: Gun Falls Out
While eating dinner at the Planet Hollywood restaurant, a patron bent to pick something up from the floor. A small pistol fell from his pocket, hit the floor, and went off. The bullet struck and injured two convention delegates waiting to be seated; both women went to the hospital.
Cheap Holster1: Gun gets cocked.
I once was a rent a cop and we had cheap Hunter holsters, the retention strap went over the trigger guard, leaving the hammer exposed. Twice I looked down to see my revolver cocked.
Violating the four rules

Teen Assumes Gun Was Unloaded
Samuel B. Allgyer, 15, of Mill Hall, and two other male teens, 13 and 15, returned from hunting and each was handling the gun in a farmhouse Thursday afternoon, authorities said. The 15-year-old fired the rifle thinking it had no ammunition in it, said state police Trooper Nicholas A. Loffredo. But it did have a live round, which struck the victim in the chest.
Man Assumes Gun Was Unloaded At Gunshow
John Bogesdorfer, 64, of Monroeville was looking at a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun at the booth of Hannah’s Gun Shop of Tipton, Blair County when the incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. The booth was tended by vendor John Hannah . While Bogesdorfer was handling the gun, it went off, striking Gladkoski who was at another vendor’s booth. All guns at the gun show were supposed to be unloaded.
Extremely rare (not to mention suspicious):

The man had gotten out of the boat to pick up decoys at the end of the day, said Cape Taylor, Tennessee Wildlife Resources law enforcement supervisor for Davidson and several other counties. A hunting companion, who didn’t have waders on, remained in the boat, where the other man’s shotgun lay on the floor. “The dog apparently jumped back there and hit the trigger of the gun,”
