Perhaps I missed someone posting on this. But I found it interesting what happened in China this past Monday. Strict gun control did not stop Chen Wenzhen from killing two middle school students, wounding three others and a teacher, then taking his own life.

Monday's incident:

3 dead, 4 injured in school killing in S China
GUANGZHOU, Feb. 25, (Xinhua) -- Three people, including the suspect, were dead and four others were injured on Monday evening in a school killing in Leizhou city of south China's Guangdong Province, local authorities said.
A young man named Chen Wenzhen broke into Leizhou No. 2 Middle School at around 7:35 p.m. killed a boy and a girl of Senior Two with his knife and injured four before he stabbed his own abdomen and jumped off the fifth floor, said Zheng Jiu, the school headmaster.
Police would not identify the victims or confirm reports that the suspect was aiming at specific persons.
The four injured, including three students and a teacher who tried to stop the killing, were being treated in Leizhou People's Hospital, local authorities said, without giving further details.
The suspect, described as mentally disturbed, was also a Senior Two student. He left school half a year ago for he often suffered from headache and could not concentrate on his study, according to Zheng.
Zheng said teachers were trying to calm down the students, but it was unknown whether classes would remain normal in the following days.
The investigation into the case is underway.

Apparently, this is not a new thing in Asian countries. Loren Coleman has a blog which tracks copycat incidents of all sorts:

Yep, it happens. Knife incidents don't usually produce the results of gun incidents, in part due to the need for proximity. A person with a knife can be fended off with a book, stick, backpack, etc., but a person with a gun can shoot from beyond the reach of defenders.
