This crazy situation right now will only result in higher gun and ammo prices. Dealers are looking for more profits , they always win in the end. I can only see more people going to gunshows this weekend to get what they could before the sun goes down. Human instinct as we know it.

I just bought an LR-308 yesterday. I got the last, a base model, and as I was checking out a guy came in and asked if they had another. When I said that I got the last one, he offered more than I paid (full MSRP) for it. Yep, dealers will soon be reaping it in.

If a bill gets introduced banning them, the prices will go through the roof. Manufacturers will push production limits to get out as many as possible before an effective date if the bill goes through. Those items (receivers, mags, weapons) will all sell for more than you think is possible. Ask those of us old enough how we know.

I can see it coming. We can feel it now!! With the stupid Mayan Calendar scare, that also adds to the panic frenzy. I may have to get some more mags and ammo for good measure and be part of the problem, hehee

Nathan, this "crazy situation" as you choose to call it is no different than any previous situation. If you are referring to the tragedy in CT. then say so. Yes, gun and ammunition prices can be increased by hype but only certain guns and accessories. So what would your point be? Everyone should run out and buy the hype and speculation? Fuel the fire kindled by paranoia? How about a wait and see?

The one gauge to see how the gun community reacts is the ammo counter at Walmart. If you see them empty and are rationing , you bet things are heading that way.

Indeed, prices for "pre-ban" receivers quickly went through the roof last time around, and in short order poorly maintained and used "pre-ban" AR-15's were selling for over $2,500 in my part of the country (remember, mid-90's pricing).

If another ban is introduced, I'm sure we can count of the fact that there will be no sunset provision built into it. That will only increase the panic buying (rightfully so).

It is true that Sen. Feinstein has fought against gun rights for decades now, and has introduced many of these bills in the past (which typically die in committee). The thing is, the sentiment seems different after this last election, and particularly following the two tragic shootings this week. The tide seems to be turning against gun owners again, just as it did in the mid-90's when the last ban went into place.

Your bolt-action deer rifle won't be on the chopping block, but you better believe that any possible variant of an AR-15 most certainly will be.

In the last three shootings, the AR platform were the main guns used. The AK is taking a backseat this time but it did have its fair share with the armored piercing CHicom ammo in the LA shootout. Even fellow gun snubs hated the AK platform as far i can remember.

Now the AR is the talk of the town. What a change in the last 10 yrs , started with the Washington DC shooter in 2002.

Remembering the last ban, I decided to stock up a few things online this weekend. I checked a few prices on Friday, and they seemed pretty normal. After watching the Sunday news shows I pulled the trigger on a couple drum mags. I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure those prices jumped $20 in just 2 days.

Prices of what seemed normal on Friday?
