gun anxiety

Until recently I was a high school teacher so it would have been a felony for me to be armed the entire time I was at work. So you learn to deal with it.

Im feeling under powered with my 7 round sig p290rs, with all the resent increase in crazy muslims and the chaos from the BLM movment.

Im considering using my gssf coupon to buy a g26 and carry two full g17 mags

Do you feel different when you are unarmed ?

No.

But then I don't live in South Africa like the OP and that means I don't know what the environment is like that might cause anxiety for an unarmed person.

It's interesting that you mention that because I know many people who live in areas I consider very safe and they carry guns and obviously you get people who live in very dangerous areas and they don't carry guns or even attempt or consider getting one
I have a friend who 5 years ago admitted to me that he owned no fire-arms , I asked him what he would do if a group of armed intruders came into his house one night , he joked and said he would take them on with a cricket bat , I said that was a pretty funny answer but what would he seriously do ? today he owns more guns than I do and is a serious sport shooter, but still does not carry a gun on the hip ?
it's like some people don't think about what could go wrong and others ( like me I guess) can't stop thinking about it and try to be prepared for everything going wrong.

Distilled down to this one line question, my answer is yes. I do feel different when unarmed.

Kind of like how I feel different if I am in the car without my seat belt on. Even if I am in a drive through, or a parking lot, and just started moving and am doing a few things with the seat belt not quite on yet as I am leaving the driveway (small/slow street with great visibility)...definitely feel different.

The seat belt bothers me a lot more, constantly, all the time, though.

And so does not having my phone.

... just wondering now how many of us are actually calmer and more rational people because we carry guns and that gives us more confidence so we tend to be more relaxed?

Do you feel different when you are unarmed ?
Yes, of course ... but the difference does not generate anywhere near what I would consider anxiety in me. I am simply aware that the pistol is not there. It just turns into an exercise in testing my observation skills in order to see if I have become a bit complacent/negligent. ;)

That said ... I am long past the time in my life where I am ever out after dark clubbing, shopping and/or seeing a movie. If I were still doing those things, not having my pistol would probably generate, at least, a little bit'o'concern in me.

Since I retired, most of my about-town traveling choices are dictated by when the traffic is best, which means I am out&about in the early morning when folks are either still asleep or thinking about going to work.

FYI traffic is pretty good late at night too.

I don't feel different unarmed. I don't live in an area that's a high crime/risk area, though. When armed I do attempt to be a little more analytical of behavior or surroundings, I guess just trying to give myself any advantage I can if something came up.

<nodding> Ayup, knew that. :)

There were many times when I was much younger when I would get my grocery shopping done (out of the way, to my way of thinking) late at night when most folks were home.

Now I am a hardcore morning guy, up before 6am every day and usually in bed reading by 11p. I have my primary home network bits setup on a timer; on at 6a and off at 11p. ;)
