Gun Control for Fake Guns

In Florida, state Sen. Gary Siplin has a bill that would prohibit individuals from carrying a paintball gun in a vehicle. He said he had been told about youngsters brandishing such guns while driving. He said if they're bold enough to do that they might use the fake weapon to commit a crime.

Besides the fact that most people in this state don't take Siplin very seriously, perhaps he has a family member or friend who runs a a paint ball park and wants to ensure that you have to rent a gun rather than bring your own.

"Sometime these people try to go into a store and try to rob it with a toy gun, and if the police come they may shoot thinking it's a real gun," Siplin said.

Well, stupid is as stupid does. Aim a gun at a cop and become a bullet magnet. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that pointing a weapon at an armed man is just not a good idea, and it only furthers the case for stupidity if that weapon is inert.

That being said, some of the "toy" guns, especially the c02 powered arisofts, are made to look exactly like the real deal. That's why my friends and I have opted for the Daisey models that are made of clear plastic with some orange on them rather than something capable of multiple shots without being cocked each time.

Of course we tend to practice in places like parks. This falls back to the whole not taking a rocket scientist to figure it out thing. We don't use fully realistic looking weapons in public where we are apt to have to explain our weapons to the local LE. We are serious enough about our safety to actually practice self defense involving firearms, but we aren't stupid enough to get ourselves shot, either by each other, or by the local cops who might mistake a realistic looking Sig knockoff airsoft for the real deal.

Wow! It's weird that I'm reading this right now, here's why. I just walked in the door. Me and my family just got back from a local carnival. On the way to the carnival I called a good friend the happens to be a cop. I had my concealed gun with me and wanted to make sure they were not banned at this carnival. He told me they were not but that if it was him he wouldn't bring it. He told me that last night a teenager got a gun pulled on him because they were walking around robbing people with fake guns that they won at the carnival. If it wasn't for the orange tip the kid would have had a bad day. Therefore the cops that work the canival are kinda on the edge:scrutiny: and if someone saw my gun it may esculate into a bad deal for me. Of course they wouldn't be able to do anything to me, but it could cause a big scene. Just kinda funny that I read this now. It would suck to have a bunch of cops draw on me.:what: Maybe what they should do is make anyone that wants to buy a fake gun pass an I.Q. test first. I think pointing a fake gun at someone is a good way to get yourself killed.

"It's important that a child cannot walk into one of these little convenience stores, plop down a dollar and walk out with something that can get him shot on the spot without question," Deberry said.

I work at a store where we sell airsoft guns. This person makes it sound like anyone can just walk in and buy an airsoft gun. At least in our store, you have to be 18 to buy an airsoft gun, and if you decide to point it at an LEO or try to commit a criminal offense with it, well, that's your problem and bad judgment. If someone younger than 18 wants to buy one, they must have a parent present, in which case, it's the parent's duty to make sure their kid knows what they hell they are doing.

Forgotto mention in my earlier post, that as a kid myself, I had more than a few toy guns that looked just like real ones, or at least close enough that you'd beleive they were real until you got a pretty good look at them or handled them (which is something a cop, bank teller, ccw holder, etc doesnt have the luxury of wasting time to do, really) and managed to never have any problems, so it isnt really a new phenomenon with airsoft and such. I was born in '74.I was simply taught, and was smart enough, to NOT point them at anyone who may think they were real, like strangers, cops, etc. how hard is it, really? as has been said, ant it applies to toy guns as well as real guns, its not the ITEM thats the problem, its the criminal or idiot holding it.

Speaking of gun control for fake guns...

Has anyone figured out how you use the "3 seashells" to wipe your butt yet?

Not only allow fake guns, also remove warning labels saying things like "Coffee is hot!," "Water is wet!," "Poison is poisonous!" etc.

That'll improve our gene pool in no time flat.
