Excellent point. My son is a Marine Corps Reservist. The first time they handed him a Beretta 92, a handgun of a type he had never shot before, he qualified Expert. Why? Because his Dad had planted a seed ... and watered it!

This reminds me of a story I read a few months ago. I don't have a link, but some kids were apparently running around robbing people with an unloaded pistol. They eventually ran into someone carrying a loaded pistol. Death ensued for the crook without bullets...

There shouldn't be an exception in the case of a robbery.

What I believe this means is that taking money without threatening the person (say grab a purse sitting unattended on a chair and run) is theft. Forceable taking is robbery, and forceable taking with a weapon is armed robbery.

Knives, bats, hammers, fake guns, fingers in the pocket, and real guns all mean armed robbery charges.

however, fake guns, bats, and hammers don't get you additional gun charges. No such crime as 'felon in possesion of a fake gun' etc
