Gun Control Is Bigotry

Editor's Note: Writer Howard Nemerov is an enthusiastic supporter of the Second Amendment and an avid student of the gun control issue. In the gun control movement he sees aspects of bigotry, racism, ageism, sexism, and eliteism, which he discusses in today's article.

Gun Control Is Bigotry

''Fear is the foundation of most governments; but it is so sordid and brutal a passion, and renders men in whose breasts it predominates so stupid and miserable, that Americans will not be likely to approve of any political institution which is founded on it.'' – John Adams, Thoughts on Government

And what is bigotry, but fear of what one does not understand?

Waiting periods to ''cool off.'' One gun a month limits. Banning gun shows. All are examples of hysterical people wanting to punish the gun owner who has committed no crime and demonstrated no ill intent towards others. At best, this presumption of guilt goes against the very grain of our constitution. At worst, it is the arrogance of government determined to engineer the lives of people it considers stupid, incompetent, and undeserving of freedom to determine the course of their own lives.

I am continually amazed that liberals, who make up the vast majority of gun control advocates, would subscribe to an agenda that is so blatantly racist, ageist, sexist, and elitist. I thought they cared about the poor downtrodden masses of regular folks, mistreated minorities and women, and the elderly. Makes one wonder what their real agenda is!

Gun Control Is Racist
In his research paper ''Racist Roots of Gun Control,'' Clayton E. Cramer, explains how early gun control laws were directed at ''keeping blacks and Hispanics 'in their place' and for quieting the racial fears of whites.'' (1)

Some of these laws date from the colonial period. Some were even written into state constitutions. (1,2)

Georgia’s Supreme Court limited the right to keep and bear arms to ''citizens,'' even though it found the ''right of the whole people'' to keep and bear arms could not be infringed. This horrifying legal precedent plays well to those who wish to be the next Hitler. He taught us that if you can marginalize a whole group or class of people, you can lead them to the slaughter, and the remaining ''citizens'' will not stop you. Gun controllers know this, which is why they portray gun owners as illiterate bubbas and criminals.

The work is well-written and detailed, so I encourage you to access it at the URL listed in the footnotes. The paper will give you great insight into the true mental workings of a gun controller. If you are not currently afraid of gun control, you should be.

Contrast this with the reality – something which terrifies liberals – of gun owners. I saw persons of all ''races'' and dozens of nationalities at a recent gun show, and nobody made an issue of it, because there was no issue. This is true tolerance, unlike the bigotry of the left that continually singles out and harps upon a person’s skin color, culture, or ancestry, in order to make themselves feel good about their own discomfort at being around people unlike them. It is a Ponzi scheme whereby they convince others that they are tolerant through volume of noise and dramatic demonstration. Liberals are the true rednecks.

Gun Control Is Ageist
Senior citizens are generally physically unable to take on a young criminal steeped in a violent lifestyle. Where would the following people be without their personal protection?

Two men broke into a 66-year-old man’s home just after midnight. He shot one gun-wielding criminal dead, and the other escaped. (Desert Dispatch, Barstow, CA 12/26/02)

A 79-year-old stamp and coin dealer had been beaten and robbed in previous successful robberies. The next robber was shot in the hip and booked by police. (Daily Breeze, Torrance, CA 02/21/03)

A 76-year-old man was awakened by sounds of a break-in early in the morning. He attempted to hold the criminal at gunpoint while dialing 9-1-1, but the guy lunged at him. He shot him in the chest, killing him, before the police could arrive for the arrest. (Desert Dispatch, Barstow, CA 08/16/03)

Gun control freaks would prefer to have three dead senior citizens and two live criminals who can go out and prey upon more defenseless victims.

Overreaction? An 76-year-old Buddhist monk was taking a walk when confronted by a young man who wanted his money. After the monk complied, the perpetrator stabbed him in the neck, chin and chest. He is in serious condition in ICU. In San Francisco, this is preferable to having an old man defending himself. (3)

Gun Control Is Sexist
This does not take a rocket scientist to figure out. Let’s say that gun controllers get their wet dream, and all guns magically disappear. A 120-pound woman is walking home after work at night, and is confronted by a 200-pound creep who has survived in a violent environment by becoming a superior predator. Neither is armed. Do you think he is concerned about her resisting?

Australia has seen an increase in sexual assault since its gun ban; 7% more between 2000 and 2001 alone, the latest data I have available. It is interesting to note that most of the male victims were younger than age 15. (4) Those least able to defend themselves pay the price when the law-abiding are disarmed.

England has seen female rape almost double since its gun ban. It increased 27% in the last reporting year alone. Indecent assault on a female increased 14%. (5) Gun controllers must believe it is better for women to be disarmed so that they are more available for certain men’s whims. Let’s not forget that famous gun banner, Bill Clinton, and his predilection for defenseless females.

Contrast this with women able to defend themselves. A woman kills her ex-husband after he broke into her home. (6) A woman successfully defends herself and her daughter against two home invaders. (7)

How can NOW possibly justify its position on gun control? They have turned into a victim-promotion organization. Do the letters stand for National Organization of Whiners? Is it morally superior to be raped and murdered? I thought they were in favor of women being strong and taking responsibility for their lives.

Gun Control Is Elitist
When the Sullivan law was passed in New York City in 1911, ''state senator Timothy Sullivan of New York promised that if New York City outlawed handgun carrying, homicides would decline drastically. The year the Sullivan law took effect, however, homicides increased and the New York Times pronounced criminals 'as well armed as ever.' '' (8)

In practice, this law was used to disarm immigrants. (9) Today in New York, the only way you can get a license to own a gun is if you are rich, well-connected, or a celebrity.

Another legal approach to limiting firearm access to the rich is call Melting-Point regulation. Cheaper guns use lower-grade metals. As a result, they melt at a lower temperature. Melting-Point laws declare that if a gun melts below a certain temperature, it is considered the type of gun favored by criminals, when in fact it is the type most affordable for those living on modest incomes, often living in metropolitan areas where crime rates are higher. (9)

I thought liberals wanted the ''little guy'' to be able to defend himself against those who would use their superior power, be it economic or physical, to prey upon him.

Conclusion
Gun controllers criminalize gun owners by passing victimless crime laws, such as ''assault weapons'' laws that make certain guns illegal, even though the owner has no intention of ever using them in crime. These ''guilty until proven innocent'' laws indicate the mindset of gun control, as amply demonstrated by such gun control experts as Hitler and Stalin.

Their bigotry and suspicion of law-abiding citizens does not stop when they are disarmed, because it has nothing to do with guns; it has everything to do with control. You are already marked as a threat to the state. You will be culled from the herd. You have already been judged guilty, and you will die.

Action Items (for those who are interested)
Sign the petition to Stop Feinstein-Schumer Gun Control bill at http://patriotpetitions.us/. The Clinton gun ban of 1994 has been shown to have no effect on crime, and only affects access for law-abiding citizens. It is set to sunset this September.

Contact your senators and tell them to pass S.659/S.1806 now. This bill protects firearms manufacturers against frivolous lawsuits filed to make them responsible for criminals using guns, but it is also an excellent template for tort reform. These lawsuits invariably get tossed, but the gun controllers consider this action to be ''death of 1,000 cuts.'' They hope to bankrupt the manufacturers from legal fees, or drive the cost of guns up so that fewer could afford them. The House version of the bill passed with a super-majority, crossing party lines.

Amazed? I'd guess he hasn't met more than two or three leftists if he's actually amazed that they're blatantly racist, ageist, sexist, élitist, and plain old-fashioned anti-American.

I was talking to an AFL/CIO guy

I was in a coffee shop right next to AFL/CIO headquarters
in "Frisco" (all of the afl'ers hang out there).
Anyway, the afl'er was going to visit AZ and I said how much I like AZ's
"shall issue" policy (had to explain what "shall issue" is)
and his eyes got big,he had no idea about AZ firearms laws, said it was
"a bad idea to have people carrying guns" ,So I asked him does he prefer
the CA ccw system which only lets "rich white men" carry concealed guns?
He was for jailing poor blacks and hispanics for attempting to exercise their rights?
He said "I never thought about it that way"

Liberals allways complain that prisons are full of black men ,yet their policies put them there! :banghead:
