So last night I had a dream....

To keep things simple and to spare you the weirdness of it I will try keep it short... Basically There were a bunch of thugs outside my house, 3 vehicles full of them, all with multiple guns. For some reason or another the cops weren't there (this isn't a strategies and tactics deal...) So Naturally I head outside with my HD shotgun(18inch 870), and make them all surrender. They all do except for one guy that is giving me problems. One thing leads to another and I have to pull the trigger..... click..... the one thing we all hate hear. Nothing happens. Naturally I cycle the action again. Its jammed. Its everybody's worst nightmare.

Then I wake up. Heart about to beat out of my chest.

I go back to sleep only to have another dream about trying to kill a giant (I mean BIG, Like the size of a hippo) black panther that is harassing my dogs. I go to get my H&R Buffalo classic to drop the beast and the same thing happens. Click.....

Is it just me or do dreams like this happen to everybody?

Freud also prescribed cocaine to people that were mentally unstable. I have had a couple of gun dreams none where the gun wouldn't go off well I actually don't know if it would have or not because I woke up before we got that far. The one thing I noticed is these dreams of mine always occurred when I was the least prepared for something to happen.

Most of Freud's theories have been rather thoroughly discredited, including his dream interperations.

are you new to shooting-- thinking about self defense?
often the sleeping mind plays out your doubts and fears. more training/trigger time so that your sub-conscious 'knows' that the gun is going to operate properly and those dreams will diminish. though you may never stop dreaming about running short on ammo.....

It seems to be a pretty common theme. Weapons almost never work in my dreams.

I think it's just a matter of your brain doing the "prepare for the worst" thing and giving you a hard time. Another thing I've heard of is an inability to do really important things in dreams, like squeezing a trigger or running away. Your body is normally paralyzed when you dream so that you don't flail around and break yourself. In a really intense dream scenario, the impulse behind really important actions can be strong enough that the action gets suppressed in the dream, too. At least that's what I've read.

The only dream I distinctly remember involving a weapon also involved it not working, but for different reasons. Some thug was kidnapping my girlfriend and I couldn't line up a clear shot with an AR-15 (which I don't yet own) through a large crowd.

I typically get dreams like that before tests... or during mid terms. The funny thing is the dreams that follow the tests or midterms, everything works and I don't actually want to wake up lol.

I hate the big cat dreams though...really, they are old and I am tired of being chased by mountain lions, srsly...***. Before I die, I will get one...it will be stuffed.

It's frustration. My hands can't grip the pistol, I can't work the slide, or I just can't pull the trigger.... Then I wake up!

Ask yourself what is happening in your life you have no control over- but don't expect a reply. Our subconcious uses dreams to "tell" us things that it doesn't really want us to know- because we can't handle the truth...except in third hand analysis by e-mail posters.

Check our some basic psychology or dream analysis books from your local library.

Every now and then I have dreams like that. I either miss every shot, or the rounds seem to have no effect. In all the dreams though, the gun sounds muffled, too quiet, like a squib load or something like that. At first I thought it was because I'd never shot a gun without ear protection, but that has since changed. Strange what the mind will come up with to keep itself occupied.

Interesting...

I'm not particularly stressed about anything right now... that I know of...

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one though :)

I’ve had similar dreams. Mostly in mine I’m under attack and have a gun with no bullets. I then usually find some but they are all the wrong calibre. Then if I’m luckily to find the right bullet it just pops out of the barrel and falls harmlessly to the ground.

Last night though I had a dream I was eating a large marshmallow and when I woke up my pillow had gone.

Brrmp! Tsssshhh!

You've been a great audience! Goodnight!

Most of Freud's theories have been rather thoroughly discredited, including his dream interperations.

But you gotta remember that Freud can be analogized to the alchemists, the astrologers, etc... based on pure observation (the root of science) he generated useful hypothetical constructs in the science' infancy from which were developed so much of today's knowledge. Gun.

I frequently have dreams where I have a gun but can't find the ammo for it, or find the wrong ammo.
--I seem to have the same problem as Calibre. I think these dreams are related to the fact I keep over 30 different types of ammo to feed the ole guns.

Quoting Zundfolge

I contend that dreams of misfiring guns denote fears of misfiring guns.

LOL, yeah I had a dream like that when I carried a chzeck made 9mm makarov type gun. I then got rid of the gun and got an H&K USP. Ive never had that type of dream since.

Strange, Ive had several gun dreams where I was firing at and being fired at attackers where the bullets seemed to have no effect. In the dream I remember feeling the rounds hit me, and they hurt, but didn't break skin. They would just fall to the ground like I was just outside their range of effectiveness or something. My rounds would seem to be hitting the target and I would even see blood spray, but they would not even be slowing the guy down. I mean like several magazines full. I remember waking up with the feeling that I should just throw the dang gun at him and hope it would give him a concussion.

I've also noticed that often times the shots sound awfully quiet And when I first started shooting I never wore ear protection. strange.

Hey, maybe that means I should get a doctors note from a psychologist saying that I should be allowed to legally own sound suppresors?!?

i was sitting in a giant parking lot with spaces that were at least 20' apart and i was holding a big C96 that took AK mags, had a tackytickle AR front grip and shooting clouds

Hmm, I've had several.

I had planned on getting a Garand, even though I already had one which was a Century. I wanted the REAL thing. I had one dream where I went into my local shop only to find out that he had sold the last one the day before. Fast forward a week and I have another dream. This time, he only had a stripped, bare bones receiver. I actually woke up that morning thinking I had gone. I was incredibly bummed.

Me and a couple of friends got into a firefight with a rather large group of people. I have no idea who they were, but if I had to guess I would say Vietnamese, just based on how they were dressed. Although they were dressed more like VC rather than the NVA. The odd thing is that it was here at home, on my own property.

My most recent dream involved aliens. This one is a bit creepy and just plain strange. This also happened here at my house. Was night and I remember there being a large group of people. I see a strange beam of light focused on my head, which went out on both sides of my head, but had no point of light. At that point I knew things were gonna get weird. Some people gather by the fence looking out into my fields. Then suddenly I here this really creepy chanting. Almost a ritual type chant. About five seconds later, a light appears in my back fields. Was set of three, which then somehow split into four sets of three. At this point, I start to move back towards the house thinking the @*%$ really is about to hit the fan. Then people start vanishing one by one. They would disappear in an aqua green/blue haze. I'm yelling and screaming at everyone to get back in the house, but most people seem to be in a trance almost...with the exception of a few who are indeed running. It got to a point where I basically said the hell with it, because they obviously weren't listening. Naturally, I go to safe and pull out my weapon of choice. That weapon being my AK with the Aimpoint. I also remember instant messaging my friend (and THR member) ndh87, because I thought some help would be good and he is all of maybe five minutes down the road from me. And that is all. I woke up the second I pulled it out of the safe. I woke up and started thinking about it. Part of me really wanted to find out what happens, yet I wasn't so sure I wanted to find out. During the dream, when I went down into my room, I honestly thought the little bastards were gonna search the house and end up cornering me in my room. It would be then that they would have met an hail of 7.62

What that last dream means, I have no idea. Maybe I should stop having SHTF fantasies. Oddly enough though, an alien attack was never thought of during such fantasies. It was always the zombie thing. :D

I had a dream that I was impotent.

I think it was caused by a subconcious fear of having a misfire with my HD weapon.

I have one that I have over and over again same problem every time but with different people and surroundings.
I have a encounter whether it be a home invasion or mugging or another situation when I am forced to draw and fire however no matter what gun I am using or how many times I shoot the perp I cant stop the attack there have even been a few where I run the gun dry and turned to a second weapon (bat, baton, golf club or similar) and even then I can't stop the attacker. I don't know what this dream means but is makes me fell very under gunned and unconfident and that’s a bad thing.

"In the dream I remember feeling the rounds hit me, and they hurt, but didn't break skin."

Must have been a .25 :neener:

I personally find this topic fascinating. I have had many dreams with guns over my short life.

1. I have a gun, someone tries to hurt me or my family, I shoot them, always pull the trigger, but nothing happens to the perp.

2. Once I got a .45, that went away for the most part to shooting the perp, and waking up, not knowing what happened.

3. With my daughter, I've dreampt that horrible things happen to her, and that I have a gun to keep her safe.

I find with stress at work, I have more gun dreams. I just find it interesting how guns play in our subconcious. Freud was the man in his time, but was onto something in that our dreams do mean something in our lives.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its Constitution.

I have a dream that one day on the slopes near every town there will be a shooting range.

I have a dream that one day even the states of Maryland, California, and Illinois will recognize the justice of an armed and self-reliant citizenry.

I have a dream that my two sons will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the fact that they are marksmen and sportsmen, but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day down in Texas, the right to carry a firearm openly will be achieved without its Governor having his lips dripping with words of interposition and nullification of the Constitution and without its politicians swearing to uphold the Rights of the People as if they were mouthing a child's sing-song, meaningless and empty.

I have a dream today.

I have a dream....

....And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true. And so let freedom ring from the prodigious hilltops of New Hampshire. Let freedom ring from the mighty mountains of New York. Let freedom ring from the heightening Alleghenies of Pennsylvania.

Let freedom ring from the snow-capped Rockies of Colorado. Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California.

But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.

Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee.

Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi - from every mountainside.

Let freedom ring.
