I think later in life I would like at least one gun that was released to production the same year as my birth, 1979, autoloader preferred.

So I am tapping the keg of knowledge, what guns premiered in 1979?

Can somebody please...

Check the '79 Gun Digest - something I don't happen to have.

BTW, that's a pretty novel concept. :D

The Browning BDA.

BDA 9mm, .38 Super, .45 ACP were Sig-Sauer P220s labeled and imported by Browning.
BDA .380 was a variant of the Beretta 84.

From the '79 and '80 Gun Digests it seems they were announced earlier but were not really available until 1979.

I"ve been thinking of doing the same time. AFAIK, the Beretta 92 (no suffix) was introduced in America in 1975, the Year Of My Birth. I've been trying to find an original 92 (heel magazine release, rounded trigger guard, frame-mounted safety) but to no avail.

The BDA, they looked okay before I knew that, I wonder how hard it would be to find a 1979 sample... don't even want to think about that.

Is that the only one? I guess it wasn't like it is now, with so many guns being introduced each year.

Thanks! If there are more that slid under the radar, post 'em! Revolvers okay too for more options.

I think I remember reading something that the Ruger Redhawk was introduced in '79 also. Anyone confirm?

Don't believe the Redhawk was introduced in '79. Perhaps it was the Superblackhawk? Redhawk was a radical departure from the Security Six and a good gun design just got better.

Hmmm. I guess I've fallen prey to this same vanity - I've been holding on to a penny minted in my birth year.

Hey, you guys can afford guns and motorcycles, more power to you! :D

And no, Art, it ISN'T a denarii!

:D

Quartus...:scrutiny: just what year is that penny...you seemed to leave that little piece of info off the post...:scrutiny: . Mine would be 1950...I've got a few of those :D .
Mark.

Hmmm. I will say that it is a U.S. minted coin.

Oh, alright. It's '56

Good year for Chevys, anyway. :D

me i'll not worry about when it FIRST came out, i'll just gladly inherit the Security Six manufactured in 1976 (marked "made in the 200th year of americna liberty" or similar been awhile) that still resides in my father's gunsafe. and i'm also keeping a watch on the matched set of Stainless '76 vintage Blackhawk and Single six (same "200th year" rollmark as the Security six above) at my local shop.... been drooling over those for a few months now.:D

Slightly off-topic, but in the same vein - I'm tempted to order a 1970-dated Finnish M39 Mosin-Nagant rifle from Wholesale Guns, Inc. for the same reason, being made(although not introduced/adopted for issue) the same year I was born.

Another neat idea I had when I turned 21(but did not act upon) was to buy a bottle of 1970-vintage Port wine, and share it with two of my best friends from high school whose birthdays were within a couple of weeks of mine. Alas, the opportunity was lost - I've grown apart from and lost touch with the friends, and even if I could find the wine, it's now past its prime(much like myself;) ).
