So here is something that rubbed me the wrong way. A guy who is a gun hater is getting as part of his part of an inheritance, a plethora of guns. Almost 60 all together. He is trying to get someone to tell him how to make a bunch of profit off of them because he doesn't want them.

I told him he should, as a gun hater not accept the gift, and to transfer that gift to another relative in the trust. I told him that in my opinion he should not accept guns since he doesn't believe poeple should have them and therefore shouldn't profit by them, and that chances are the person who owned the guns would want a family member to keep them and cherish them as I would not just pawn them off. I thought the whole thing stank of hypocriticalisim. It's like he says, I hate guns but hey if it means money, I will totally relax my morals.

What say ye.

He's a total bleeding heart liberal gun HATER from the get go and when there is a post on another site where we discuss shooting or guns always chimes in with the rhetoric and calls us paronoid murders and stuff like that. He's a jerk.

not only that but he asked US where he shold go to make money on this deal and started it off with You guys know I hate guns but I was wondering where I should sell this collection I am due to inherit. What an a$$.

I am all to well aware he is within his rights, but to me it's like how I feel about the Hollywierd's making a ton of money off of using guns in their movies all the while damning them and those of us who shoot them. I feel the same about the actors who are very antigun yet won't hesitate AT ALL to make bocoup money off of a scene where they have guns. I guess to a hypocrit it is all about the money.....not their morals.

If he wants to sell them then just tell him to make a list and you'd be happy to make them available to THR members.

Better we gun lovers have them then a gun hater.

I hate ceramic figurines.

But, if I inherit five figures worth of them, I won't be using them for targets.

Good for the gun-hater that he's at least selling the guns.
Some gun-haters are so rabid, they would have them destroyed.

Oh,no!
Now you've reminded everyone of my faux pas on the Richard Widmark obituary thread.

From what I gather, they are all vintage or antique rifles. I hear they may be worth a ton. the guy who owned them was like 90 when he died.

Let him find someone else to help him sell his collection. Maybe he'll get lowballed. How would he know...

"OK. So, you're telling me that I'm being a hypocrite by selling these guns and making money off of them. That since I hate guns, I should not do that."

"Right."

"I see that. You're right. I should be consistent with my own moral views."

"I'm glad you see my point."

"I'll have them destroyed, then. It's the only right thing to do."

You can say what you want to him, obviously. But I've never had a problem with people hating firearms. I hate cars, but I don't think they should be banned or taken from people. There's no requirement that everyone like firearms. Whether someone likes them or hates them isn't even a political issue.

I hate ceramic figurines.

I'm with you. Though I must admit if I inhereted a large Precious Moments collection worth a bunch of money, I'd be VERY HARD PRESSED to avoid taking them out to the woods for ritual destruction.

There is a huge difference between your repulsion to figgureenes and someones hatred of firearms. I guess if you try to justify it in the very basic of terms, there may be little difference. But I am saying thet if he is OH so passionate about his disgrace of guns and gun culture, he shold refuse the gift, and forward it to someone who will appreciate the gift greatly. It's like when my Mom died, she gave me her diamond rings because she KNEW that my sister would go hock them and knew I'd pass them on to my daughter and keep them in the family. I guess guns and gifts mean more to me no matter what they are than to some.

If it's a matter of who in the family deserves the gift more because they liked X items more, that's not really something we can resolve here because we don't know anything about how the estate is being divided.

All I can say is proceed with caution, because I've seen these kinds of fights lead to generations-long rifts between family branches.

Tell him to donate the entire collection to a non-profit museum and use it as a tax write off. That way he gets his profit and the gun world doesn't lose valuable history.

Although, since he's just another liberal whose morals are outweighed by money, he's just as likely to donate them to the Brady nuts who'll in turn use them as propaganda against guns.

Why was he bequeathed to the gun collection? Surely the owner knew he hated guns?

goodbye family heirlooms. If he were my relative I certainly wouldn't appreciate that. Perhaps you should mention something about guns being very sentimental to some and suggest he see if some friends and relatives have anything in particular they may want (even for a price if he does want to be a dick)

Cosmo, I think you are missing the point. BTW I don;t personally know this guy and if it was my family, you'd bet Id be getting them! All I am asking is if you all think he is being hypocritical by selling something he thinks no one should own. Let me analogize it like this, Say you are a Christian, and someone gives you a satanic bible that is worht a bunch of money in a inheritance. You are such a good christian you think it shold be destroyed or that is is such ad juju you don't want to have anything to do with it yet you WILL accept money for it? That's not right morally. At least that's my take.

Everyone learn a lesson from this and make sure your collections(be they 2 or 100guns) go to someone who'll appreciate them.
