Gun-owning family needs help keeping their kids

Alright, now I'm a bit pissed off.

The ex has been signing up and leaving nasty comments about us, calling us scammers at a couple sites, and in my comments.

There’s no such thing as anonymous on the internet idiot....

If you see nasty comments from a netblock owned by Shaw cable (24.64.0.0 through 24.71.255.255), theres a good chance it’s coming from him, or his family or friends.

I haven't met Chris in person, but I've known him, or known of him online for years. He has a definite and verifiable reputation in the community. Take a look at all of the major and minor bloggers helping him out.

If you don't want to help, don't. Don't run you mouth against someone you know NOTHING about. That's not high road.

Most of you don't know me or my bona fides - I've spent most of my forum time on some version of Kim DuToit's for several years rather than here. I've never met Chris, but he has been a stalwart friend anyway. I've certainly called him for advice and help plenty of times over the years. He and Melody were caught out of sorts by this issue - their budget included this expense, but not just today. End of story.

Team Infidel happened before Chris met Melody. It also cost Chris his job. The point he was after was made at a high personal cost, well before this happened.

While I've never met Chris, I have met Kim DuToit, Kevin Baker, Misha and the Layabout Sailor. They all have met Chris and he is their friend as well. I didn't need their positive opinions of him to make up my mind, but if saying it helps Chris, I'm for some name dropping.

I've never met Chris or Mel, but people whose opinions I respect a great deal think well of them, and on the theory that "the friend of my friend is my friend, as well" they've got what little help I can shake loose.

And while Chris may have done something "stupid", he certainly doesn't have a monopoly on it, does he? I try to limit myself to one stupid thing a day...
Right now, I'm up to October 19th, 2011.

Said putz claimed kidnapping in Canadian courts, and then got his arse handed to him by the US federal court.

The putz's US lawyer has been honest with said putz and even 'splained that this is pointless ... he doesn't want to get caught in the frivolous litigation suit that follows.

Said putz is using a quarter million dollar fire insurance settlement ( from a fire the RCMP called "suspicious" ) to drag the Byrnes through the legal system.

Classic insane abusive jealous Ex behavior ....

I'm one of the "minor bloggers" helping out. Obviously I don't post much here. I have met Mel & Chris. I've transported their firearms to and from the Gunblogger's Rendezvous in Reno two years in a row, so obviously they trust ME. I've spent time at three different events talking to both of them. I read their blog, they read mine. I know what Chris does for the firearms community.

They're good people. They're in a crack. Help out, or butt out is my suggestion.

Well I believe the folks that questions someones mental stability because they shoot up a book and/or pee on it might want to look in the mirror themselves. Its paper nothin more no different than any other paper target... to judge that as bad or unstable? I can only hope you and your like have no say in where any kid goes- likely ya believe same sex marriage and those couples make good home environments for kids and is perfectly ok

I think I'd rather have the guys on that site as neighbors and friends than the likes of some of the doo gooders here.

FWIW:

I've spoken w/ Chris a few times, plans to meet face to face fell through.

He's always struck me as a straight up guy, and never given me any reason to doubt his honesty.

The limited contact isn't fat evidence, but he holds the faith of people I have had extensive dealings with, people I've met and trust. This sealed the deal for me, so I tossed him a medium hatful of dollars.

Make of that what you will.

Well, what do you know. I've been registered here at THR for some time but never posted.

I've never met Chris or Mel, but have met CC who trusts both. That's good enough for me.

As for the Team Infidel thing; it's not my thing, but I can understand the point being made and have no problem with it.

My sister went through a tedious and difficult custody battle against her abusive ex-husband too, so I understand the difficult situation Chris and Mel are in. My sister was willing to give her ex ANYTHING he wanted, if he would just let her have primary custody. He too fought, not because he actually cared about his children, but to spite my sister.

All that said, I'm fortunate to be able to help financial and did. If Chris and Mel are scammers ... well .... they fooled me.

There is a reason The High Road is different, is it going to stay that way?

From reading quite a bit on Chris' website I am truly sympathetic to his cause here. It does sound like his wife has quite the ex to deal with and I hope things work out for them. But, this particular site has always been immune; either by peoples thinking or by moderation, from this kind of thing. Chris can post anything he likes on his blog, there's certainly nothing wrong with that and I'll defend his right to do so until the end, but THR was started for a different purpose, and it's that purpose that has led me to post here almost 100% for gun related things.

The avoidance of bigotry and name calling here has been the primary reason THR has done so well, even after TFL came back on line.

Right now in fact there are several threads in the rifle section going on between the regular posters here and a man in Pakistan fighting alongside US troops in the tribal regions of that country. He's a Muslim, he's asking for gun advice to go shoot terrorists. That he felt OK asking that question here speaks a lot.

I'd really like to see Oleg or Derek weigh in on this and either bless it, in which case I'll shut up and get on the bandwagon, or remove it.

This tears it. I have no idea how long this post will remain standing, but at least I'll have the satifaction of saying it.

This place claims to "The High Road' with the implication of being a place where people can gather for discussion among ladies and gentlemen.

The moderators spend a great deal of time and effort policing it for profanity.

and yet, in the end we have a place where a bunch of self appointed high priests of gun-dom ( said high priests not nessicairly being the moderators.) running around calling people scammers, or telling -other- people ( me ) that they are morons, shouldn't be allowed guns, etc,etc.

I am hoping that the tape is used as evidence that the children are being taught some negative things. Drinking, shooting, and bigotry are not something we want us good gunowners to be associated with. And they are especially things we dont want to teach children.

The fact that the man has the nerve to ask for money after such a Christmas is wrong in my opinion. Sell all the computers, guns, cars, and other things to get your children if you have to.

Spend some more time on Team Infidel and figure out [i[why[/i] it was done. It was a statement about freedom of speech and freedom of religion after 9/11. Read the parts about the conversation with the FBI. Don't look at a single set of acts and pass judgment in a vacuum.

Your inane judgment would put vulnerable children in the hands of a known abuser who only wants the kids to hurt his ex-wife. Somehow, you think that's better than a responsible, loyal man who cares for his wife and stepkids, because he posted some videos he made to make a point about being pissed off at Muslim extremists? Great choice. It's better to look at one small aspect of a situation than to look at a long, established history of behavior.

Bluntly put, out of all the gigabytes of data out there that mock cristianity, hinduism, COS, paganism, etc,etc. I think islam can take a few lumps.


On a closing note. You feel that these children should be taken from thier mother, because something the step-fahter did, before the mother ever met said step father.

You are essentially saying that you are willing to advance your -personal- agenda on the backs of someone else's children.
