This is a story i just heard from my teacher at my first responder class. He is an ex-sheriff, and this story takes place near his house. We were talking about domestic violence and how the scene may sometimes not be safe to a first responder. This brought up an event that happened in front of his house.

This mom who was the victim of lots of domestic violence from her ex-husband was dropping off her kid to spend the weekend with him. But there was a problem the ex-husband was a very abusive person and under the terms of droping off the kid, the ex-husbands parents needed to be there to make sure the kid would be safe during his stay. This day the parents were not there when the mom was droping off the kid, instead there was just the ex-husband. Fearing for the kids safty she decieded to wait with the kid in side her car untill the parents got back. The ex-husband did not like this idea, and after making a big scene, and yelling at her, he punched out the passenger window with his fist were the kid was sitting and started pulling the kid through the broken window. The mom at that point put 3 holes into her ex-husbands body. After being shot he left the kid and started walking back to his house. He collapsed inside the door way. Our teacher heard the shoots grabed his gun and with a friend went to find the ex-husband to see what was going on and help out medical wise. Our teacher and the EMTs (who got to the scene very fast) found the body at the same time right inside the door way dead. The mom was taken into custody(not booked or arrested) to see if this was a good shooting. After looking at the husbands long arrest record they found out that during another exchange of the kid taking place at a police department the father started to beat his wife in front of the cops. She was cleared of the shooting sense there was reason to belive the kid was indanger from the dad. Of course not to mention pulling a kid over broken glass does not ring of safty. BTW she shot him with a 32.

I wanted to share this story. As one it shows a good self defense event, in this event it was self defense of her kid. Also she only shot him with a 32 and it worked. I know many poeple here say thats not enough fire power but it worked period. Also to those who might say well it took 3 shots and he did not go down right away remember he was pulling the kid out so i am sure she did not have a clear shot to his vital areas to put him down in one shot.

To those who might say you cant shoot the husband just for taking the kid, remember that he was not aloud to be with the kid alone becuase of the fear he would harm him. By forcing his way to the kid, and in a sense kidnapping him, as at the time he had no right to have the kid, i believe she did right.

I thought the same thing while reading the post. But she maybe knew if she drove off she would just have to face this all over again. I wonder if it was .32ACP, .32 S&W, or .32 S&W Long. Maybe a .32-20. Funny how all the anger just leaves when you've been shot three times.

How does a judge allow even temporary custody if there is a danger of harming the kid and with that guy's record?

Any gun can be deadly. There was an article here a while back of a guy who killed a bear with .22 LR. The bear didn't die right way either.
IMO, small guns like that are not intended to be "Stand Your Ground" gun, but should be used as "Shoot & Run Like Hell" guns. Sometimes you have no choice.

I would not drive off because, i bet this was normal to her him yelling. And i am sure once he punched out the window and grabed the kid, if she tried to leave then she could of lost the kid.

I dont know why the kid got to see the husband at all. It may be it was not a court order just something both sides argeeded on. I just feel for the kid.

Dunno. Even here in pretty straight thinking Ft Worth the family court judges have the reputation of doing EXTREMELY stupid things like this.

So many mothers tell wild tales to judges to swing things their way that the judges get immune to it and come down giving the father the benefit of the doubt as often as possible unless shown compelling evidence of a history of violence and do things like this "supervised visitation" just to shut up the attornies.

Who knows.

Sounds like supervised visitation, which occurs when there's a question about one parent's behavior.

I agree that if she's used to the yelling and abuse, the ramp up to his punching in the window was probably "normal" behavior with this guy. It's when he went from verbal to physical threat that she then acted. Since driving off and risking injuring her child she responded in the only way open to her.
