Gun purchases based on Movies?

I'm dating myself, but . . .

The old 70's series "Manhunter" gave me my love of Colt 1911A1's - so I got one.
"Aliens" and "Starship Troopers" gave me the liking for Space Rifles - so I got my Bushmaster Bullpup ("Bushpup" to us 'pup owners).
"Starsky & Hutch" had me wanting a 6" Colt Python for years - just haven't found one for a decent price yet.
I still want a Walther PPK - thank James Bond for that desire.
And yes, one day I will have a "Quigley rifle". :D

Several years ago, when I was shopping for my first handgun, I was on the verge of shelling out megabucks for a new 9mm Sig P226, when I noticed the CZ 75 featured in the animé Gunsmith Cats...

Then I noticed it was featured again in Vandread...

And again in the You're Under Arrest TV series...

The P226 would have been a nice pistol, but I'm happy now with my CZ 75B pistols (among other CZs).

Saw Terminator when I was about 12, said, when i'm 18 i'm getting one of those 12 Ga autoloaders!
Went from store to store when I hit 18 and finally got someone to order me a spas 12.
Still my favorite gun.
And the guy with the AMT 45 longslide won't sell his to me, but he will eventually, I'll just keep waiting.

Something like quigely down under makes me sort of want the specific gun because it is a very unique sort of weapon. I also get into the wondering about just something able to be so accurate at such a range since a bucket is not that big a target that far out. At least for someone with my lack of skill.

Something like chow yun fat or the matrix makes me think more along the lines of just duplicates rather than a berretta or whatever.

I bought a single action more because I liked the idea from the movies since I had never shot one before I bought one. It has become quite a favorite and now I want some others.

I bought a leveraction for about the same reason, it got sold recently due to just not being whatever I thought it might be. Nice gun, just did not become one I enjoyed shooting over some of the others.

I have also had a similar problem with movies and just calibers. Dirty harry got the 44 mag and also the 458 winmag, I think that is the one but I have tried to put it out of my mind since it is not possable with my current wallet. I was not worried about the specific smith and wesson he had, I just wanted something because it was loud and the movie made it look invincible.

I have learned from sights like this to do some real world research. I don't regret any of the stuff I have bought, but this site lets me make seriously informed choices and the movies hold less power over me.

Of course that darn underworld movie started my brain going again, so even the above will not stick for long.

Saving Private Ryan got me wanting an M1 Garand, and an '03A4 with interchangable 2.75x Lyman and 6 or 8X Unertl.:D
I still want most the guns in 'Behind Enemy Lines', particularly the MP5KPDW.
I will soon get an M91/30, thanks to 'Enemy at the Gates', and my C&R.(When it shows up!:cuss: ) I have an M38.
I had a hankering for an SBS SxS when Mad Max came out, but it passed.:p
Still want a Barrett, due to 'Navy Seals' "This is God, over..."
I wanted a PPK because of Bond, until I shot a friends' , and it bit me:( !
(Ironically, I love shooting my Dad's Sig P230!)
I will probably justify all the C&R rifles I'll be buying with all the WWII movies I've watched over the years. (Patton, Anzio, Guns of Navarone, Cross of Iron, Dirty Dozen, Kelly's Heroes, Bridge at Remagen, Longest Day, Bridge over the River Kwai (No, not an Ariska!), Sands of Iwo Jima,....)
and many others I can't immediately recall.
Oh, yeah, almost forgot my smokepoles, because of 'The Mountain Men', and the Walker(replica) I had, because of "Outlaw Josey Wales":D

Errrr. . .Who, me? :uhoh: Buy a gun just because some Hollywood actor used it to win a sniper duel? Or shoot a telephone wire @ 165 meters? Or waited 'til there's a bomb explosion before firing to mask the sound of his shot?

Being a movie nut fuels my gun nut habits.

Full Metal Jacket played a large part in my Polytech M14 purchase.

Black Hawk Down pushed me over the edge and I bought a pre-ban AR.

Last man standing caused a second 1911 purchase.

John Wayne movies inspired multiple lever-gun buys.

It’s a good thing I’m broke or Band of Brothers would have added a M1 Garand, M1 carbine, or both to the collection.

Ticket prices seem to be the cheapest part of watching movies for me.

Never in any way has any James Bond movie made me want a PPK or P99.

Same goes for Aliens and Terminator and an M17s.

Never has Saving Private Ryan made me lean towards M1s or 1911s.

The Matrix quintilogy (1, Animatrix, 2, the game, 3) doesn't make me want any HK gun, Beretta, minigun, Glock 18, or such.

And, in ABSOLUTELY no way, has the movie "Sniper" made me want to get a G3 and make it look like a PSG-1.

... Dionysusimarottenliarsigma... ;)

To the OP, if you wanted a Beretta because of the Matrix movies, then try a Browning BDM. It should fit perfect in your hand since a Beretta is too big for you. Seraph used a pair of BDMs in Revolutions (where he does a one-handed chamber check with a gun in each hand).

the converation of weather media effect gum purchaces does come up in the first scene of jackie brown.

I've never bought a gun JUST because I saw it in a movie.

Training Day didn't detract from my desire to own a 1006 in any way though.... if that is in fact what Denzel was using. It might have been one of the full size .40s or .45s, but I'm not sure.

This may sound strange, but the TV/Movies that REALLY want to make me buy a gun are the "Tales of the Gun" or "Guns of WW2" shows on the History channel.

After watching the M-16/AR-15 episode I went out and bought a AR-15. Same thing after watching the AK-47 episode. And the Colt 1911 episode. I am still looking for a Luger P-08 and a Tommy Gun.....

I also bought a stainless Beretta 92FS after watching the movie, "The Replacement Killers" which is pratically a 90 minute commercial for the 92FS.

If I were rich I would have this problem terribly. There are so many I want and everytime I watch a movie or TV show that has a gun in it I want something new.

I was watching Dragnet a couple days ago and found myself online looking at Colt snubnose 38's. They had another episode where they used an Ithaca 37 shotgun. Since I have one I was wound for sound. I was so excited.

I'm still waiting for the Blas Tech DL-44 that Han Solo carried to make it's way to the market. :D

It's a mauser c-96.

I think james bond is a walther salesman. Being a fan, i wanted a walther bad....being smart i bought a bersa thunder. :D

anyone remember the opening credits of the Jamie Lee Curtis movie "Blue Steel?" A long, loving pan around a S&W Model 10.

The movie went downhill from there.

Never bought a gun based on what I saw, but I sometimes feel validated when a Beretta makes an onscreen appearance.

I wouldn't want anything as clumsy or as random as a blaster...

...I want one of these!

Or one of these:

Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti westerns make me want a Richard's-Mason open top conversion. Cimarron Arms makes a few, I'll take one in .38 spl just because the ammo is easy to get.

5 1/2 inch barrel would probably be cool.
